where to get a streetport and what size?

so i want to get a streetport, but i was wondering what kind of shop to go to. should i go to one that specializes in rotaries or does it matter? and also, if i go to a shop that isnt familiar with what a streetport actually is, what is the exact size increase? thx for the help...

ive actually been in contact with atkins rotary, but they dont take engines out for you, you have to either buy an engine they are putting together or bring yours in already out of the car, so that one is out of the question

You can buy templates from racingbeat. A local machine shop 'might' try underaking the project if you supply the templates, but you are MUCH better off, A. doing it yourself, or B. better yet taking it to a rotary guru that has done it before.

Checks Ted's site for the write up on porting. That will give you some good get started info

You can buy porting templates, but if you are going to take it to a non-rotary shop, then you may as well buy a hand grenade instead, as it will probably do less damage than the V-8 mechanics will.

See your regional forum for local rotary shops that can do this work.

BTW, it's more cost effective to get a street port in conjunction with a rebuild. If your engine is still OK, I recommend waiting a little longer before porting it.

The thing is, street porting usually only adds about $200 to the price of an engine rebuild. Getting the engine ported now could cost you over $1,000 with the engine installation. The problem is that the engine needs to be disassembled and re-assembled for the porting work, and it's a waste of time and money to go through all that if the engine is in good working order. However, if you really want the porting, then I guess it's worth it. If that is your plan, and you have that much money to spend, then you may also want the mechanic to take a look and see if anything else needs replacing while the engine is apart.
