Unless you are rebuilding the engine, it's just not worth it.

Mild street port means a 10 - 20% power gain with supporting mods (exhaust, etc.). But $3000 in labor to pull the engine apart, port it, and put it back. If you are paying to do the work, then the cost just doesn't add up. If you are doing it yourself, that's a different economy.

and as some shops will push on you i generally focus on the exhaust for the 6 port engines. the primary ports can be opened up some but the secondary plates shouldn't require much of anything, the intake is already quite radical. porting the irons simply isn't worth it.

i usually just upsell removing the wings in the exhaust sleeves, at a slightly cost of more noise. it tends to amplify that buzz that you sometimes hear on the older rotary cars.

but like Aaron said, it requires a rebuild of the engine. not worth the cost unless it is due for it.

You need to take it to a rotary-specific mechanic. If you are still willing to dump a lot of money into the engine after reading the above posts, below is the contact info for a top rotary shop near your area. Another option is to crate up the engine and send it off to Mazdatrix, Racing Beat, Pineapple Racing, or some other professional rotary engine shop.

I am astounded by the fact that I get this "how much to port my rx7 engine" question at least once every couple of weeks. I guess some kids buy the car and know nothing about it, and decide "yo dog, I'm gonna stage-4 port & polish the head, or whatever this engine has". They are SHOCKED when I tell them that in order to port the engine, the entire block must come apart, be cleaned, inspected, and reassembled (which constitutes a rebuild).

Save the port work for wen a rebuild is in order. I think it's foolish to do, even yourself unless the engine is tired and needs rebuilding.
