Where to get good sheet aluminum, for block off plates, ect

Like it says, I'm looking to make a few bits and pieces, like a cold air box, radiator panel. Where can I get some good sheet aluminum for this kind of work, and what kind of tools do I need to work with?

And what about making a block of plate for the BAC? I'm guessing I'd need a heavier gauge of Al or SS for this, or buy one from this guy

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=131668

I don't think anyone would have bought one of these yet, but if anyone can confirm that the NA and TII Bac are the same, I'd buy one, and let everyone know how it looks.

You can get sheet metal from any metal supply shop. Usually, you can find these type of places in the industrial part of town. The thing is, for your particular application, you will have to find sheet metal that is thin enough for you to cut it.

BTW, how do you plan to cut it? You could use some heavy duty sheers. You can also have the shop cut it for you.

You may also want to speak to a representative at this shops because there are grades of metals. Tell them about your project and particular application. They should be able to tell you which particular grade would be best for you.

Look at http://www.airpartsinc.com for aluminum sheeting. I built an airbox out of aluminum from there and it turned out great. It was cheap and they shipped fast. You can cut it using a nibbling tool. I got one of those at Radio Shack. It's slow going, but it makes clean, precise cuts and only costs about $10.

Road signs also make good interior pieces.

I didn't bother polishing it but I have a few things that are and they polish out real well.

Those 'for sale' signs that the realtors put up in front of your house are also a good thich aluminum sheet. And the penalties for "borrowing" one probably arent as steep as a 'road work ahead' sign.

If you guys don't want to "borrow" road or real estate signs from someone, you can get the blank aluminum sign material from a local sign shop. There are tons of small franchise shops in strip malls all over the place, and the blanks are usually pretty cheap. One thing to keep in mind about sign material is that it usually has white enamel paint on one side. Probably not too good for high temperature situations, but maybe cool for interior pieces.
