where would you guys suggest buying a used 13bt motor from. ive shop around and the best price i found was from osaka motors. 750 for motor, 5 speed trans and uncut wiring harness. and if you had 1500 dollars what part of the car would you put it in.

If I had 1500 bucks, I would get a rebuild. Then if I have enough money *don't have a clue if I would* I'd get a streetport as well.

Find a car first. Unless you already have some shell sitting around or something.

i (somewhat recently) payed around 1500 from corksport for a jspec 13bt. Motor came with 120 psi on all six faces. Swapped it in an s4 and have had no problems in the last 1300 miles. I would rather spend twice as much once than gamble with one of those random jspec importer companies.

One problem with jspec engines, there's no way (that I know of) to get it to be CA smog legal. (Temecula CA right?)

However if there is some way to get it CA smog legal, I'm down for one too.

just a thought. a lot of jdm motors are bad and it's best to do a rebuild. i've also been searching and found a couple on ebay that range from 1200-1700, and are jdm motors. wouldn't it be a better idea to get a $750 motor to rebuild than to spend more on a motor that you will most likely rebuild?

wow motor tranny and wiring for 750? I'd like to get in on that. Can you please give me more info. My engine is blown and is soon giving out so I will be needing a rebuild anyways.

Get all new suspension and drivetrain bushings and mounts,
get a good alignment
at least some decent summer tires
put decent suspension components and upgrraded brakes on first
buy your self the fuel and cooling components you need
an ecu , boost sensor, maf, etc from a TII or a standalone like megasquirt first.

Then buy your TII engine tranny and differentials, much more worth it in the long run. Also if you get a j-spec especially a cheap one get a soft seal kit from masdatrix or mazda competition and take apart the engine to make sure everything is clean and within spec and the rubbers havent dry rotted from sitting.

With the sheer volume they do you are going to have bad apples. Their prices are competitive and they have a 30 day warranty, so don't buy it till your ready to drop it in and you should be covered.
