Coolant everywhere
alright guys this may or may not be a tough question to answer but here goes. i have an 87 t2 that had some running issues. after alot of trouble shotting i have solved them all, aside from the backfiring all the time. I bought the car not running, now that it is running its leaking antifreeze from the back of the block. is there a line that may leak or is one of the seals in the irons leaking?

You can check for a blown coolant seal easily, but I haven't heard of it leaking out of the irons, it would leak into the combustion chamber. Could it be one of the hoses leading to the throttle body? those two nasty bendy bitch hoses that are easy to forget and hard to replace?

lmao its already straight piped it never has gotten warm enough because it pisses anti freeze everywhere. This car has been notting but trouble. as fas as i know the lines are good i have checked an re checked. its coming from the back of the motor. on the bottom. not the sides or anywhere else. just the bottom? it lost about half a liter in a minute of running. its leaking underneath the turbo onto the manifold. but its not the turbo leaking?

well it's real hard to diagnose a coolant leak looking from the bottom up.... gravity works its magic on all things.... especially coolant so of course it looks like it's coming from the bottom. There's gotta be something your missing. I know you have checked and re-checked your hoses, but that is still the culprit IMO. Have you looked at the FSM and gone through ALL the lines? The turbo is water cooled so it is possible that it's leaking.

yea, if coolant seems to be coming from the rear iron, check the hose that goes from the drivers side nipple on the rear iron to the firewall for the heater core, and the coolant hoses that run from the nipple on top of the rear iron pointing straight up to the BAC, thermowax, TB etc. These hoses are the ones most known for cracking and bursting.
