where does this vaccum line connect to?
where does this vaccum line connect to?
i think that says it all...i need to know where that connects. im still having some minor idle problems but since i replaced most of the vac lines its much better. i also replaced the gasket to my BAC. anything else i should replace to help my idle?
Thanks in advance,
-Matt
the rear one looks like the twin scroll, the previous owner may have disabled the system which is ok if you prefer it. look on the backside of the turbo heat shield, there is a metal line coming up off the twin scroll servo which should lead to this tube, if it is disconnected then it is disabled.
the capped off line is unused so it is ok also.

***SHOULD THIS BE ATTACHED TO SOMETHING******* is the Twin Scroll vacuum line.
****THERE'S THAT CAP AGAIN***** I think should be going to the EGR.
I can't say with certainty, since I can't see what is going to the FPR, but I THINK the line you presently have going to the EGR should be going to the FPR. The CAP should be going to the EGR.
Most of this vacuum line stuff can be easily solved. Go to the solenoid for a given part and blow air into the two hose connected to it. See where the air exits. Where it exits should be connected to what the solenoid is dedicated to.
And if you go to the online FSM and go to the FUEL section and look at the diagram of the vacuum hose you can see where things go to some extent. You say the lines are too little and you can't follow them??????? I say since you have Adobe Acrobat you can ENLARGE THEM and follow the lines from end to end.
Anyway, I think your EGR and FPR are goobered up.

well it seems to be idling better now but maybe that isnt effecting the idle. i will take a look at the FSM and find out whats supposed to go where. I reconnected all the new vac hoses in the same spots they were when i got the car so maybe the guy who had it before me screwed it all up. ill take a look.
well the car seems to be running alright without the twin scroll. how much turbo lag will that get rid of? i notice these cars arent fast in low rpms but it fine for me the way it is. will i get much of an improvement by hooking up the twin scroll?

I'm also wondering where the capped off line in your picture goes? the uncapped one is for your EGR valve. On my car the one you have capped goes to a line thats broke off, could you look at yours and see where the capped line runs to?

an old post comes back haha....well i just capped the one that i had uncapped...and as for the capped on in my picture...ill go during my lunch break today and try to figure it out...then ill let you know what i see...
My 87 TII came from the factory with that line capped. I believe (I'm recalling from memory) that the line goes to the back of the UIM. There are 3 small and 1 larger nipples lined up vertically on the back of the UIM, and I think that line goes to the top nipple.
Regarding the small lines on the FSM vacuum diagram, I used a copy machine to enlarge mine about 10 times. I made it so big, that I had to tape 3 or 4 sheets together to get the whole diagram. Then I used colored pencils to trace and distinguish the lines. I've used that diagram for about 10 years, and it really helps me out.
Finally, I posted this pic of an S4 TII the other day--maybe it will be helpful for you.

I think there is a long hose from you passenger side firewall that connects there. You guys know what that black and green box is?? Whats the name?? check to see if youhave a vacuum hose running from the box to the nipple.
And that one nipple that has the plug on it,,,,they are like that from the factory. Not sure what it did, so just leave it.

It doesn't matter if the factory-capped line is open at the other end, as long as the vacuum source on the UIM is not open to atmosphere.
I must be misunderstanding your question. I looked at your original picture, and your vacuum lines are already hooked up as I have shown. The other end of the line you circled meanders over toward the solenoid valves somewhere--I'm GUESSING the blue one for the ACV.
If I have time tonight, I will look more closely to see if I can see where it goes.

its hard to get to the back of the metal line that runs it towards the side of the engine...but i can get to where its disconnected. i have a line hooked up to it right now and its kinda long. i just wrapped it around somthing until i can find out where to hook it up to. should i try to get it back into the metal tube in the back or just hook it to where its supposed to go.
it is under a vaccum if that eliminated any of those lines...

I think you can just hook it up directly to where it's supposed to go (the metal tubing in the rat's nest that you'll be bypassing doesn't have any "T"s or anything), but it seems like it would be easier (and neater) to use the rat's nest.
Here's a couple more pictures that show the tubing rack. Maybe they'll be helpful. Please forgive the appearance of the motor--it was having a bad hair day, but it's doing much better now.
cant quite see the rats nest very well. if anyone has better pictures of it they would be very helpful. does anyone know what this line is for anyways? do i even need it or is it just emissions related. i get out of work at 5 so ill check it out then.
but yeah if anyone has good pictures of the rats nest they would be very helpful.
