Your thermowax is missing. Is your car an auto? 2 of those go to the thermowax unit an a manual.

Slight correction; your thermovalve is missing, but the thermowax is still there. It's the metal part with the coolant line coming out of it. The plastic thermovalve just screws into the body of the thermowax housing.

Check if you have the outer set of secondary throttle plates before you do anything else. If someone removed the thermovalve, it may be because there were no plates & it had no use. The valve is only used to operate the double throttle diaphram.

If you have the plates, and want the system back, then buy a TB off of ebay or the classified section. You can scavenge the thermovalve off of it. But in the meantime, cap off those hoses. At least one of them will be creating a vacuum leak.

thanks for the correction.
tb's and carbs always seem so complex to me, well our tbs.
so if i cap them for now you think i should see improvement in the problems i've been having with idle and such?

thanks again for all the help people.

Absolutely. Vacuum leaks will give you an unstable idle.

The double throttle diaphram you have looks like the kind off of an AT car. The thermovalve that went on ATs had 3 nipples, instead of the 2 on an MT. That extra hose goes to one of the sides on the diaphram, right?

If I'm right, you should be ok with one of the two lines to the diaphram hooked up. Which one, I'm not sure, but could test it by applying vacuum with a pump or the engine.

Edit: on second look, that looks like an S5 throttle body, as well. And where is your TPS? Someone has been mixing and matching parts.

hm. i think that s5 theory might be right.
the throttle body i got on ebay was different.
and the one that guy posted earlier was the same.
i'm thinking i do have an s5 one.

too bad the s4 tb i got on ebay was damaged in shipping.
so took make the s5 one work what do i need?

The series five throttle body has no place to attach the oil metering pumps control rod. Get a series four throttle body.

Both the NA and the turbo have OMP (or MOP).
Series 4 cars are mechanically activated using a rod from the pump up to the throttle body.
Series 5 units are electrically controlled, hence, no rod.

Driving the car without a functional OMP/MOP will eventually blow the engine, unless you premix. I have an extra S4 NA TB I call sell you. I'll send you a PM about it.

If you have an OMP rod, it'll be as simple as reconnecting it to the S4 TB. If not, you'll have to find one for sale, or possibly buy a new one from a dealership.

You could also blockoff the OMP and premix, but it's kind of a pain in the ***. Some people don't mind it, but I got tired of it quickly when I was doing it. I ended up keeping the OMP on my next engine build.

yeah after thinking about it its not a good idea for me to do it.
i have the worst memory ever.
so i would for sure forget to premix.
