Where can i buy a gasket for the afm ?

I've looked on mazdatrix and atkins website and neither have a gasket for the afm.

I bought an afm off a forum member but there was no gasket with it, does anyone know where i can buy one ?

Make one..it's not special.
takes about 2 minutes.
Put a piece of gasket paper over the Afm and tap lightly with a Small ball peen,or anything that won't kill it..
it will leave the indent in the paper, then cut the paper to shape it.
For the bolt holes i just lay the paper down and use a same size drill bit on low speed...makes perfect holes!
DONE!

ask for the Fel-Pro gasket paper kit at Napa or any Auto store..maybe Car Quest,Auto Quest.
It contains cork,paper,gas resistant stuff.
I use the blue colored paper.
It really doesn't matter about thickness,as long as it does the job.I don't like cork on this application
Package is like a couple sheets of Typing paper size..wrapped in Cello-wrap..

the factory gasket is like a paper bag kind of material, in fact i'd just use a shopping bag, its a really unimportant gasket

Why would you worry about putting this gasket on? There are so much more critical areas of the car than that gasket. You think that 1% of unfiltered air that might get sucked in through the gap between the AFM body and the air filter box body will make a difference?

To answer your question I have a few of them hanging on my wall if you absolutely can't sleep without one being there. They came in factory gasket kits a few years ago, and are made of cork.

I've done that^! I've even made t-stat and waterpump housing gaskets w/that method. I also like to spray 'em down (drench) w/hi-temp clear (let it dry a bit before install) or spread some copper-coat (its got the brush in the lid) on 'em. Seriously, why pay for a PAPER gasket?! Its ridiculous!

I don't mind constructive criticism. I'm a good listener, knowledge coming from the wise members on here should definitely be taken.

I'm just a bit of a perfection artist. I like only the very best for my car.

These cars are very needy when it comes to proper maintenance, do it right the first time and you're much better off.

I agree that doing things properly the first time is an admirable goal but disagree with your opening premise.
The rotary is a Japanese car...they aren't particular maintenance hogs.
You want "needy", try something British from the 60's or earlier.

When I say needy, it means needy as far as doing things the right way.

If you half *** the work on an rx7 it'll show sooner than later.

That's well and fine, but it seems like maybe you're focusing on all the wrong areas. You're wanting to use a 160k mile original turbo engine that you know nothing about as-is, yet you're worried about an AFM gasket being just-so.

That's kind of like picking up a 45 year old stripper at the club and marrying her so that she can cook/clean, and you can bring her to dinners with your parents and church on sunday mornings while overlooking all her flaws and "experience"...but then you having a nervous breakdown because there is a fly in your house.

Look man, if it'll make you feel better I'll give you one of the gaskets I have.

Hmmm, weird, my 7's have been the most reliable cars I've ever had, period. Sounds like your projecting the typical anti-rotary propaganda BS. None of my "home-made" gaskets have ever leaked, EVER. So if thats doing it wrong, in your eyes, I don't wanna be right. I bet you're also the type that's more than a lil bit shy of the red-line too!

Can't afford a rebuild so the 160k engine is the only option I have, if not the car sits for months while I accumulate funds for a rebuild.

No its not the best option, I'd get a rebuild if I could. I'm just trying to make the best of what I got.

I'm a poor guy who doesn't have to enough money to take the best route.

It sucks trust me, i'm praying this engine runs , and long enough for me to get money for a rebuild.

I have this car to fix and a very needy girlfriend which makes it even harder to get this car going.

I guess you took it the wrong way...but the point is if you're not worried about the engine situation, you shouldn't be worried about the gasket either.

My offer still stands, though.

I am worried about it. I mean its sitting outside under a tarp.

I haven't even put mmo in it because my priorities get messed up by my gf living with me.

I'm gonna take out the tranny/engine and get the spare compression tested and figure out how I can get a coolant pressure test done.

Crossing my fingers

It's possible that with the two cores together you might have enough parts to build one good one from plus some left over that you could sell or trade to help pay for a decent build. Food for thought.

Problem with that is I don't have the big 54mm? Socket to take off the two main bolts on each end holding the block together.

So far I've bought :

intake gaskets, waterpump gaskets, oil pan gasket, s5 turbo/manifold (still need gasket for that), under body tray , thermostat/gasket, rad cap/tstat cap, cheap purolator air filter for stock airbox, stock airbox/snorkel, stock wheels/tires, stock ecu, afm.

Still need:

other gaskets , injectors cleaned, fuel filter, vacuum/fuel hoses, banjo bolt mod (should I really trust a stock pd? My last cars broke), motor mounts(might as well), maybe a water pump, Etc

5 hours to replace the blower motor on the E36 versus 30 minutes tops on the 7.
4 hours to replace a knock sensor on the E36 versus 20 minutes on the 7.
3 hours to rebuild the window regulator on the E36, never have done one on a 7.

RX7's aren't maintenance hogs compared to many other cars. the only reason they are considered high maintenance is due to their age, which is true of any car.

Never worked on a BMW, I can say anything with fwd isn't fun to work on.

I've always liked working on my 7, my last car was a 1998 Nissan 200sx Ser and that car didn't at all hold my interest, it did get very good gas mileage though.
