When To go Stand alone
When To go Stand alone
Alright, I searched and couldn't find much that really helped me out. At what point does it make sense to go standalone? I am purchasing a T2 motor and have goals of 300-350 rwhp. Is this possible/safe on just a tuned SAFC2 or better for it to be stand alone. I would rather go SAFC2 if i can, but if i must stand alone I am considering the Haltech. The reason I posted this in the 2nd gen section is because its an S5 turbo. thanks in advance for your help
Your safest bet is to go Stand Alone... that way you can control your timing when you start adding the boost. Your SAFC2 is a simple way to control fuel only. I'd definitely be thinking Haltech E8.

Eh... I personally have a microtech I like it better then the haltech that I had, I would think of goin with the power FC since many FD poeple with power fc's couldnt be happier with the functionaly and performance!
I would have to recommend going stand alone as well. And out of the 3 ECU's mentioned in this thread, the Haltech would be my choice. The PFC is a good ECU, but do you really want to keep the old heat baked factory harness? And if you are on a budget then the Microtech isn't that bad either. The Haltech is the highest quality out of the 3 though. And if you want some killer pricing on a Haltech E6X or E8 then drop me a PM. I'm pretty sure I can get one to you cheaper than anyone else.

If you look at the capabilities of the E8 and it's resolution, that alone sets the Haltech apart. I'm not saying that the Microtech isn't a good ECU. And last time I checked, most people were getting Microtech LT-8's for around $850-$900. I also forgot to mention the Wolf 3D v.4 as another good choice of ECU.
I went microtech as well but after talking to just about everyone else including steve kan they say haltech is the way to go. Oh and yes to the original question 300 is pushing the envelope of the stock ecu. 350 would be a definate yes!
yes the resolution is about a generation back, Isn't Haltechs every 500RPM that is nicer but their are better yet. I guess it does all come down to how much you want to spend.
the wolf V4 does look like a great buy with 125rpm resolution.

what about the corksport ecu w/ an SAFC2, I'm all for the ems if I have to but am not that familiar w/ it and don't want to get in over my head. I thought the PFC was only for the FD. If not where can you get it for the FC.
Just bite the bullet and go stand alone, as mention before.. Haltech and wolf 3d V4 are great ECU's.
I currently have a haltech e6k and love it.. My buddy has a wolf 3d V4 and I like how he is able to tune with the hand held. Both are great ECU's. But if you have the money. Go for a wolf 3D...
With a wide band and egt you should be able to get the hang of it pretty soon and be able to tune it yourself.
