Wheel painting question

okay the wheels on my 90 GXL are the ones that have a removable palstic center cap with fake lug nuts on them. My question is (and i searched) how would I paint them since they are starting to fade and show plain plastic. Should I sand them down before I paint them also what kind of paint? Or are they impossible to paint? Any help is greatly appreciated :] (btw as a side note a steam cleaner really makes removing window tint easier)

im not quite sure what wheels your talking about, but anything can be painted. but yes i would sand them down with a mid to fine grit sand paper so it doesnt leave marks or scratches. and as for the paint go with ummmm just check the back of the cans at the auto store they should have a plastic specific paint

If you are talking about the center piece; I removed the fake lug nuts, CAREFULLY, primed and then painted the center caps, cleaned the lugs after soaking over night in mild dish soap and used industrial strength glue to reattach as removing them usually snaps the tabs off. The glue has held for over a year now in all driving conditions. Good luck

yes...if the paint is flaking, you will need to prime them so that your new paint doesnt have lines in it... sand lightly with 220 grit and then with 400. then apply a few layers of primer, sanding between layers, until the surface is completely smooth. then spray them with paint, with a few layers. then clear if desired. if you dont have a spray gun, you can just use krylon or similar for this, it will work fine.

taping=bad.

its hard to do, and almost always comes out imperfect. the more you can disassemble, the better
