whats your opinion
Ok. I dont know much about rx-7's but i was given a 1988 mazda rx-7 GXL. When I got it it was running alright. about 2 weeks ago i started noticing a smell of gas inside of the car at some points. I get about 200 miles per full fuel tank in it. and just recently(today) it takes about 5 seconds after pushing the gas pedal down till my AT catches and starts moving the car... sometimes in 2nd gear it feels like it is gonna die. I think its the timing on the car but i cant find any timing diagrams online. also im a poor college student that wants to repair it myself. On a cold day, it will start up at 3000 rpm and stay there for about 20 secs then drops down to about 1000. when its warm its at 750. Does anyone know where i can find a diagram on the timing online? thanks

Pop the hood and sniff around for gas, if you can smell it don't drive the car anymore because there's a damn good chance your pulsation dampner is leaking.

Yeah thats the cold start system warming your car up. It should normally run between 10-15 seconds I believe, as far as the PD goes I would definitly do some digging and make sure you arent leaking gas. Easier to pay $130 to buy a new PD than paying $$$$$$ to fix the car after an engine fire. If you absolutly must drive it somewhere (IE a repair shop) bring a fire extinguisher and a bible
