What's this plug?

What's this plug? The black one next to the coolant temp. sensor? It looks dirty, as if never used. The car is a '91 but the engine is a 89 J-spec. I was replacing the waterpump when I found it. It only (seems) to have one conductor?

The pic is @ http://unixweb.kutztown.edu/~pham279.../blackplug.jpg

It goes into the back of the waterpump next to the green one. Not exactly sure what it does.

assembled. Nothing in the waterpump housing for this plug!!! THere is no connector next to the green one!! Perhaps this was carried over from the '86-88 models? THis is an '89 J-Spec.
