While keeping it streetable, or just how much possible HP like for a drag car?

If it doesn't have to stay streetable you can get up to 350rwhp, possibly more. This would invovle peripheral porting, upgraded internals to allow a redline of around 12-14k rpm, straight pipe exhaust, no engine accessories but alternator, etc.

If it has to stay streetable, then you can probably get to about 250 rwhp. Bridgeport the engine, make it to rev up to 10k rpm, all the external mods as well.

That was just a general statements, but hopefully it helps you out.

Yes, but realistically probably around the area of ~200rwhp. Maybe slightly more. What brigeported stated is possible, but that involves way more money than it is worth.....

Exactly. Realistically, and within a decent price range, for a streetcar, dont' expect more than 190-220 rwhp.

agreed .... You wont be winning drag races stop light to stop light in your NA FC (especially GXL)... I even had the series 5 with 160 hp whoo whoo...

If you want to get you 88 GXl going here is my plan,
cause I also have a 88 Gxl.
1-Exhaust- header to highflow cat to single muffler
2-Take out you AC unit and as much of it as you can
3-get a dual Alt Pully, pm me if you can't find one
it helps when you take off the airpump.
4- get a electric fan
5- you can take out your power sterring, I like mine.
6-max air to engine by way of coldair box
and any method you come up with.
7-upgrade your clutch (dual friction or 6 puck)
8-Use Amsoil or Neo in your Tranny and LSD
9-but a set of lightweight rims or 3rd gen rims (sweet)
10-go for NOS
thats just for power, your car will become faster by
adding everything it needs. well that my .02

Yeah, the R26B out of the 787B made 700hp, and I believe one time they made an enigne that made 900 but didn't use it. Adn that was a P ported 4 rotor.

hehe, nitrous is the way to go, upgrade injectors, internals, pump, and stick in a big ol' shot of n20, you'll fly with the magi juice, and only when necessary, without puttng your engine under stress ALL of the time.
