whats a fc worth restored?

ive been offered a 88 rx7 (n/a) that is supposadly mechanically sound albeit a slipping clutch and having sat for a while, im guessing the paint is dead, and the interior is substandard this guy just wants it out of his yard for $400

i have experiance restoring vehicles and being a professional detailer, so i know i can get it looking good if i want, but what im wondering is the actual price of a na fc? kbb claims high 3 grand but i wanted to see what the supply and demand for a mediocre fc, a near factory fc, or a modified fc

I think that as a financial investment you'd be better off picking another car.

Well there are those FCs on ebay...**** I think its the same dealer. They have 2 'Verts, ******* MINT as you can get. Detailed the hell out. But they have like 80k+...their buy it now prices are over $7000. it really all depends on whether you find that one buyer or not..don't expect it to be a quick sale. I paid 3 grand for a 90 GXL with supposedly 55k (swapped cluster :/ ). There are people like me who'd rather have a really nice NA for $3000 than a beat the hell up TII (no offense). I wouldn't mind paying over 4k for a really nice NA. But then I'm wierd with cars, you're better off picking another car.

Yeah...like a Shelby Cobra or a Mustang.

The FC is purely a car you spend money on so you can drive it (meaning it's a money pit).

I think if you find a fixer upper it could be a good investment. Like my 90 TII, I spent $1000 on it and it needed a motor. $1200 for a motor... There is a TII exactly like mine but red and not quite in as good of shape as mine, goin on Ebay for over $5k - Now thats a decent investment.

IF you want to restore a car and try to make some sort of profit do it to a convertible.........4K max for the NA in mint condition (interior and exterior and pristine engine bay)......I assume you can get supplies cheap and you'll do the labor so you'll be saving some cash there but I am not sure if you'll be able to make much.

try to get it for 200........don't "restore" it.......just clean it up really nicely and maybe an S4 TII swap (for simplicity) but it will cost at least $1200 in parts..........you can get at least 5K if it's turbo........i dunno.......it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Not worth as much as the parts and time it will take to make it nice. I have $35k in mine and I am not finished.

Maybe if you dont actuall mean "restored" if you mean cleaned up but as you should know restored means replacing all worn parts and dried seals etc.

Well, a local shop here called RP performance built an S5 Vert with a Turbo II swap, pretty much stock everything I think and they sold it for over $6000...Turbo + Vert = money.

Bottom line is even when these cars are mint, they don't fetch huge dollars.

Sure there's a guy who buys a $500 N/A with a blow motor and clean body, buys another $500 TII with a decent motor/drivetrain but rusted to hell, then he puts them together and sells it for $2500-$3000, but that is still ******* peanuts.

The most expensive FC N/A I have seen (locally) was a MINT....now listen closely.....M-I-N-T 86 n/a. One owner, 45,000kms NO rust, NO tears, cracks or anything in the interior. Flawless factory car. Sold for $5,500cdn.

Thats a lot for an n/a. And you would NEVER IN YOUR LIFE be able to make that same car out of a $400 P.O.S for less than 5500 bucks.

The only cars that are fetching big bucks now-a-days restored are the cars that match the generation of folks who now have the mney to spend for the car the wanted when they were young. Muscle cars. These car one day will reach a similar level of demand, but not for a long long time to come.

Buy one of these because you LOVE the rotary, any other reason will only mean you'll end up re-selling it because you sunk too much into it and y're pissed off now

your better off restoring a TII, but dont restore it completely, just good enough and running well. $500-1500(depending on shape and s4 or s5) for a shell and $1000 for a motor = $2500 and little extra performance. You can sell it for around $5000. Which is still small, but its more profit than a NA. Either that find a 3rd gen, $6k for a shell, 1.5k for a motor = $7.5k and a little extra performance and sell it for $13k-18k. 3rd gens are pretty rare though.

Mine could probabily go for mint if I just replaced a tear in the drivers seat. Got alota miles on it, like around 138. but the engine pulls super strong and it looks completly immaculate. I'd imagine to get around 3k for it if I really tried.
