If anyone wants to test their theory, my auto 7 is for sale. I'd say that in an NA the thing that gets me more than the tranny is the lack of low end torque vs. the auto gobbling up HP.

stock n/a doesn't exactly leave a lot of horsepower nor torque to gobble up.

You have to shift pretty darn slow to be as slow as a typical auto. Having precise control of the revs is a big plus to manuals. I don't understand why any vehicle is sold with an auto. That does not include trucks and SUVs, but then again Trucks should be a niche vehicle and SUVs shouldn't exist for street applications.

so old ladies should be driving manuals? well, i guess they could have an auto if you want an 85 year old lady (who just barely passed her retake driver's ed class) driving a big truck or suv. honestly, them damn big cadillacs are scary enough to be around.

Why the heck not. IMO people pay more attention to their driving if they have to notice what the car is doing. Most people can't drive standard and have some strange ideas about how hard it is or how badly they can damage things. Holdover from when women were considered incapable of driving manuals.
