whats the deal?!

so just a few minutes ago i was going on a drive with a friend just right outside town. i left a stop sign and took it to like 5k in first then missed second and took it to the red line on accident. when i got into second gear i was goin easy on it. still was in town kinda. the car was gutless. i barely got it up to 25 mph. i looked down and all the gauges were wroking minus the tach. it was a zero when the engine was clearly running. not sure if its related but a few days ago i got cut off and had to stop really fast and stalled the car, which somehow blew the egi fuse under the hood. the 30A one

Your car is making fun of you.

The tachometer gets it's signal from the ign coils. Forget which one, hopefully someone else will chime in. Check the signal wire there.

I've also read that the tach does this sometimes when you pull the EGI INJ fuse while the car is on. The solution is to pull both the EGI COMP and EGI INJ fuses, but I also don't remember if its with the car on or off. Experiment and check back.

Nope,,the trailing coil is the one that has the tach signal
if you don;t get it off there then check the single wire near the trailing coils.Yellow/Green I think, bullet type connector.

Reliability means you need to not abuse the car for one. Second you learn how to work on the car and fix the issues.

Lets look at your statement here-
i cant seem to get any help anywhere for my car so the decision has been made.....[/quote]

How about downloading a copy of the FSM and going through the trouble shooting guides?

We can only steer you in a direction based on your full input as to what the issue is with the car. After that point it is up to you to take the initiative and do the appropriate reading and testing to find what the issue is with your car.

5K is not a big deal to shift at. Our Engines were designed to rev high. Peak HP is not until the upper RPM range. Also it is good to "Blow" out the Engine so to speak every once in a while.

The Doc is right. You need to stretch her legs a little ever now and then. If your N/A it makes sure your 5/6th ports are opening. 5k is nothing. It's when you start to go passed 8k on a stock set up it's iffy. Maybe you can try to plug in another tach to see if it's doing the same? Do you have pics of your set up? How is your wiring? Have you messed with it much? I can't stress this enough. CHECK THE FSM. That thing is your #1 tool. It's really easy to find. Hope this helps.

i did give up. after fighting with starting issues for 3 months its not worth it. i need something that i can get into and turn the key. i've done just about everything possible to get the car to run right but it seems no matter how much time and money i gave it it was never happy.

ive gone thru the whole engine multiple times checking everything making sure it was in proper order. but come on, you can only fight with your dd for so long. i hate to have to do this but its what needs to happen. the rotary engine is great, but when i need to be to work i need to be there, not trying to make this car run. so before i end up scrapping the car im going to do what every single one of you hate to hear. and that is put a v8 in an rx7.

to the Doc. ive gone thru that pfd more times than i want to. theres nothing in there ive found that has helped me at this point. it gave me everything i needed to test all my parts, but it seems that wasnt enough. i was hoping that someone at some point would have chimed in and said that they had the same issue and gave me some insight as to how to fix it but that never happened.

so i guess you guys can chalk up another one cause this 7 is going to the dark side,

It sounds like you have a coil problem fella. most likely the one that the tac gets signal from. i can't remember which one. oh and dont feel bad. my car is going to the dark side as well. i feel exactly as you do. i lwill always have a place for the rotary in my heart but i want a really cool really fast car with a motor that doesnt have to be rebuilt everyother year.

You could sell it someone who is capable of working on it (financially and mentally), and take the money from the sale and buy a miata. Might find someone that would even trade, try Craiglook.com. Miata's are cheaper to work on and have a really big following. I'm thinking about picking one up and dressing it up for my daughter before she can drive.

Just my $0.02
