whats the best way to go about a rebuild?

(1987 rx7 turbo2) well i drove my car today and actually managed to get it over 20 mph which i couldnt do for a while(think bad compression, so im told by others), but it still wont idle... this was after replacing my spark plugs... they get fouled up(wet with water i think) after i start or run the engine for a while so from what people have told me my coolant seals are broken... my IRL friend thinks its either the side or apex seals... so im clueless on what to do at this point but these are the two options i see

1) Take out engine rip it apart and replace every dam type of seal on the thing, put it back together and see if problem is fixed(hope i can do this since its alot cheaper)

2) buy a master rebuild kit and rebuild the engine this way( a bit more spendy)

so first i dont know which would be the best way to go about things as if the first solution doesnt work i will end up spending more money in the long run as i would have to follow up with option 2 lol
im only 17 and working part time(looking for a full time summer job) so i dont make tons of money atm so either way i dont think i will have this car running properly for a little over a month which sucks cause it kills me seeing this sexy beast sitting in my driveway :P

anything opinions welcome thanks

Just find a worthy rotary mechanic to rebuild it. if you dont get that summer job just have it "refreashed" as in no porting just everything re-sealed and new bearings etc. You get a summer job deffinatly go with like a decent streetport.

my friend is trading his 240sx for a turboII when he gets back from the beach cause he wants to have the same car as me and also he is very good with rotary engines... his dad has his own shop with every tool i would ever need and we do all of our mechanic work ourselves... this is my first car so i dont know much about them atm which is why i joined the forum lol to get advice and learn a bit

i got a job now its just im only getting about 25hours a week and its not enough lol.. i want to work like 60+ hours a week so i can make some bank

just need to know which of the above is the better choice and why =/

If you can afford it, go for a full rebuild. That way, you won't be second guessing the motor in the long run. If you decide to re-use stuff like rotors and housings, just make sure they're in spec.

This way, you'll have a decent motor that will last you a while. And if you feel like the build wasn't sufficient, you can start saving for another rebuild.

ya i was leaning twords the master rebuild kit and just selling any old still working parts that i replace and selling the broken ones for scrap metal or something... that way i can concentrate on getting other things like my new BOV and exhaust system and then lowering it on some nice springs, then my audio system which is followed by all my cosmetic work lol... lot of work to be done but i dont care if in the long run i pump 10k into this car.. its always been my dream car and i wont sell it even when im 60 :P

along these same lines, i am about to get an RX7 that has sat for about a year. How long do seals last without being used? And how hard is it to replace them?

It does have the fact that is started sitting litterally on a freash rebuild, like 50 miles on it. so would i need to replace them off the bat? or could i get away with using them fo awhile until i get more time/$$?
