Exclamation whathappened?????

my brother was driving my 88 t2 back from california and he said the car started to smell like gas but he kept driving...(at 100mph) then he said he smelled something burned so he pulled over ....when he popped the hood......he said that the car was on fire, and all the wires next to the turbo we burning also. HELP!!! is that possible?(my brothers like that, he'd say something like that to scare me) If so.... what happened????

its possible especially on the 86-88 because of the pulsation dampner. if it was broken it leaks on to the manifold and wamm fire.

That is a common problem. If you smell gas pull over immediately.That sux man.

You'll need a new wiring harness, vacuum lines, probably injectors, definately a new PD (I recommend an 89+ one), and whatever else the flames touched. Figure about 500 bucks, if you use a used harness. A new harness costs about that much itself.

could it be possible for the turbo hose to slip out and cause the hoses to catch on fire

I had this happen on my 88 'vert.

$2500 was what Rotary Performance charged my insurance to fix it. A lot less if you do it yourself, and use some used parts... also depends on how bad the damage is. Could be more or less.

LOL That sux dude! The same thing happened to me, but I didn't really have that much of a warning.....my secondary fuel line went POP and poured gas all over my exhaust manifold.... I had to replace the upper intake, engine harness, all vaccum lines, oil lines, and tonz of other small ****. Luckily my friend had all the parts I needed and only spent $100 on parts.... Good luck man!
