What are your shift points?

For regular driving, what rpm do you generally shift at? Im getting an FC in a couple of weeks and id like to get some input before hand.

3600rpms or so for optimum fuel economy. I also like to over-rev 2nd and go straight to 5th gear, which requires letting the RPMS drop first.

The guy im buying it from told me he shifts at 5k. He also said to redline it regularly to prevent carbon buildup on the aux ports.

You dont need to redline it regularly to prevent the carbon build up. Just every once in a blue moon or so rev it up!

I always stretch 2nd and 3rd pretty long, usually at about 5k-ish. I know it's not the best for fuel mileage, but I didn't buy an RX-7 to drive it like a Geo. You don't need to redline it, but it's almost certain that it doesn't harm the engine, and theoretically cleans carbon. Plus, it's fun.

You won't make it to 8K in 5th.. all other gears are fair game

Obviously, the harder you drive it, the more things wear out. That said, I was shifting at about 8k at the autocross yesterday. Anywhere between 3-5 on the streets, unless I need to get somewhere fast.

3.5k-4k i consider normal driving, 4.5k-5.5k if you want a little oomph to it, after 6k it's guzzling gas. also keep the a/c off for more fuel economy

regular city driving i usually shift about 3.5, really no use for me to be accelerating that fast when the next light is in like 10 feet (seems like it).

2500-3200, my car is too loud to not shift at that point when I'm not at the track or heading home (flatlands). When I merge onto the highway I tend to go to redline in second though,

If I'm just poking around, usually around 3-3.5k, or a bit less.

If I'm trying to go somewhere fast, 7.5k or so.

Im around 3k-3.5k when in city driving. Following this method gets me about 18 miles to the gallon in town which works for me. I do this with the a/c on too. I try to be as smooth with shifting and accelerating with gas prices these days. My old gsl-se though was driven alot harder back when my foot weighed more hehe.
