what year of rx7 was that????

I am a former owner of an 1984 rx7, and always loved it.
I just spotted a 2nd generation rx7 parked at a neighbours house and wondered what year it was. I only looked for a miniute at the condition of the car, and the biggest things i noticed was that the side molding was not black but painted the same as the car. And the rear badges were bright yellow despite the car being a dark blue. I know this is a shot in the dark but anybody got a possible model year for me. No I dont have any more info, except it's a 13b, and it had a cool air style intake on the passenger side of the engine compartment.(TURBO???)

Thanx

...not going to designate anything from that information. The car must have been repainted and the molding was painted over, as well as the badges were painted.

It could be a 85-91, could you explain of any badging on the front fenders, what did the wheels look like, unterior guages, front and rear bumpers?

The S4 secondary guages are like large slices of pie while the S5 are full round in shape.
The front bumper of the S4's are smooth across the front lower lip area while the S5's have a staggarded center section that recesses in from the sides.
The side badging and wheels can speak a lot for the model and possibly year/series if they have been maintained and not replaced/removed.
Also, the UIM can say a lot for the car, the S5's had the 'dynamic chamber' which had four seperately cast runners go into it befrom below, the S4 intake will say '13b injection' on top and have several ribbs, the turboII intake has a long 4 runner setup with an upward facing inlet for the stock intercooler.

i doubt its some uber ultra rare model

most likely the owner decided to paint it dark blue and painted the badges yellow, and I dont believe any FCs came with a Cold air styled intake.

the most significant difference between the s4 (86-88) and s5 (89-91) are the front bumper, side moldings, taillights, and mirrors. these are comonly interchanged so it is not alway accurate to determine series this way. look at the instrument cluster. if the 4 small gauges on the left are fulll circles, it is an s5. if they are quarter slices of circles, it is an s4.

Woops, forgot mirrors and tails, lol. I try to be an encyclopedia of model year information and other useless knowledge. I'm still reading up on everything that changed throughout the years with the FC's, then its on to learning the SA22/FC's. cool_as_crap explained it better than I did.

Interior options can sometimes give away the trim level as well. The S4's had speakers in the middle of the door while S5 speakers were mounted closer to the front kick panel in the door. I'm sorry to be posting bits of info, but I'm just thinking of stuff as I go along.

Is this a car you are looking at buying? If so, I'd look at the FAQ for the common things to look at. If it has some problems I wouldnt overlook it though as most everything can be easily fixed with some time, a pinch of money and some cut up knuckles.

Yes I am looking at this car to purchace, as a father/son project for my Dad and I. I dont even know if it runs, steers or stops.....but the body is in good shape and the car looks complete. Rims were mismatched with 17" aftermarkets on the front, and what look like a factory blank aluminum rim with many holes drilled through them on the back (i went through the photos in the faq section, no match) as far as the trim on the side it looked like it was supposed to be the same colour as the car, and the rear badges looked to be factory yellow!!! I will look closer this weekend. I also remember factory white guages in the instrument pannel, not sure bout the pie shaped guages will have to check.
I will try to snap some pics and post early next week.....
Thanks again
