What would you pay?

I recently found a very well kept, unrusted, stock and fully operational '88 GXL
I checked it out at the garage, everything is like new ecxept the brake pads need replacing and the rear shocks ar shot.
The paint is in good condition too, and the interior is mint, as is the underhood area, new tires on it too, the rims are mint condition... heck, even the retractable antenna and sunroof both work flawlessly. Old guy had it stored the past 2 years.
Got to check compression on rotors... 3 even pulses for both....125 psi with valve back in! Oh and it has 68,000 original pampered and dealer maintained miles on it.

What would be a reasonable buying price for such a well preserved car?
Or what have you paid for a symilar car?

I paid 4600$CAN for it. The guy didn't want to let it go... it was his midlife-crissis car. hehehe.

I plan on keeping this one for a very long time.

Bah, you guys don't realize the value of the might N/A. I paid $2,000 USD for my S4 GXL with a little over 100k on the clock, rusted rockers (a bit of fiberglass patching fixed that) and some minor interior bits that needed some love.

It's got 116k now and is running very well. I had to replace the rear calipers, one of the front calipers, new oil pan, exhaust was a bit rusty so I replaced it with a Racing Beat collected header, pre-silencer and RB y-pipe. I also removed all the emissions (including the spider), pulled almost everything out and cleaned it well and now things look good. I think it'll treat me well for some time. The paint is a bit off in some places and the body isn't perfect, but it's 10 feet happy and I feel I got a good deal.

BTW, N/A4LIFE. You turbo guys are clowns. :P

I paid $1,500 for my previously mintish SE. 117,000 miles on the clock at the time and it previously had a Mazda reman at 98,000. I had to replace the driveshaft, everything else has been standard maintence, most of the body had been also reshot. Even the exhaust wasn't too bad ;o.

Oh, and every record of an oil change since 78,000 miles.

You don't understand.
Ultra low miles rotary engines is suspect in my book.
The fact that it was stored for so long also would make me worry.

I've seen a lot of stories of blown motors mysteriously happening when putting the car back on the road after long down time or engines with very low miles.
Suspect is built-up carbon that scars the insides.

While a "mint" FC would obviously be a gold mine for FC afficianados, most "blue book" authorities won't care.
Try punch in the stats of the car here -> http://www.kbb.com/
I would be surprised if you get more than $2,000...

I paid $895 for my 87 gxl. The guy had it as a project car that doesn't run. I went to look at it and got it running. The guy almost sh*t a brick, he was pissed. There is nothing wrong with it except it needs a paintjob and a little cleaning. Also new pads and rotors.

Edit: it has 85000 miles on it

Had it at the college for almost a week now and its already gathered its share of rx7 owner wannabe's. The car is still looking mint. Can't seem to find anything wrong with it exept for one plastic trim that has cracked (normal for 86-89 fc's).
The suspension peices are switched... the car is aligned... the exhaust is in process of switching form on to the other and will be completed tomorow...

Next week... I will drain, flush replace ALL fluids AND filters on the car... give it a motorvac (carbon clean).

I know about carbon build-up and what it can do to the engine if you flogg it when it breaks loose... Thats why I keep it under 3500rpm untill I do the cabon clean... even if I have removed the manifold an seen 0 sings of carbon inside the exhaust port.

Its been babied... I will baby it too... and I dont care if you think its not worth it... I think it is... and thats all that matters. :P: I would even say that if you dont beleive me and are beating on it without knowing anything as I have seen, drove and now own the car, that you are just jealous.

Appologies to whom might feel pointed out.
