what would a U.S. FC be in Japan?

sorry of this has been answered before, is there a chart or something showing what the Japanese 2nd gen would be compared to the U.S. version's?

for example:

U.S. version / Japan version
---------------------------------------
86-88 TII / GT-X
86-88 GXL / Savanna RX7
89-91 TII / GT-R

i doubt the above chart is correct at all, its just an example for what im looking for.....what are the Japanese equivelents to the US spec FC's?

thanks for any help

I'm not really sure. I know there was a 'GT' somewhere in there, and a 'GT-Limited'

Good question. Does that mean a left hand drive model over there would be an ASPEC or ADM model ?

USDM dawg.

A little off topic, but I've always wondered if there's USDM fans in Japan, like there are JDM fans in the US. Like a bunch of Japanese guys with mullets clamoring over Edelbrock intake manifolds and LHD Camaros. But seriously... I've always wondered.

Years ago I used to hang out on some Japanese forums and every time I showed pics of my POS NA FCs they would trip out thinking it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. I used to laugh because obviously there was little cool about it. But I guess it's not much different than us going ga-ga over silly little jspec badging and stuff.

Yes, they love everything US culture. I had a Japanese roommate in college. He was having a 67 camero professionally body off frame restored. In 1979, it was going to cost him $12000.-you could buy a new Caddy for $8000. A new Camaro was around $6k. My 79 626 cost $6932.12. Only rich Japanese kids come here to college. He loved to smoke weed and play American rock. Pretty good on the guitar. I took him to a ZZ-Top concert one time. No mullet, but he did have the Japanese equivelent.

Couple of years ago, we had a Japanese foreign exchange student. She loved X-Files, Spongebob, Bart Simpson.

No wise cracks about the girl! -she became my J-spec Daughter. And no, you can't have a date with her! No rotor heads for my daugter!

Just like Fox Moulder!
is still an inside joke at our house.

My understanding is that all J-spec FC's were turbo. The various packages (GT, GT-X, GT limited) just indicate what kind of little options the car had as far as power windows, adjustable suspension, etc.

This is correct.

I believe they started at the GT model which was basically a base model FC (but turbo because no n/a from japan) which included no sunroof, manual windows, manual locks, no ABS or AAS. They went all the way to the Infini model which included factory weight reduction (racing seats, smaller brake booster, 86 base carpet, no sunroof), modified suspension (dropped 1" and increased spring rates), A foot-bar for the passenger in the car, the GTUs shorter geared steering rack, a modified computer (making the car put down 215HP from the factory), and was only available in 2 colors. Black (VQ color code, unknown color name) and a special metallic green (GU paint code, called "Shade Green") that Mazda never put on any of their other lines of cars throughout the years. Only 600 of the Infini were produced total. Of the 600 produced, 20 of the last produced were sent to Mazdaspeed to have emblems embroidered on the seats, steering wheel, and shift ****.

I've seen a black Infini, but have never seen the green they painted it with except in pictures.

the actual option packages are a little different than ours. like the GT is their base model, but our base model has different seats and stuff

the gt-limited is like our gxl, but again they have things like automatic climate control and the turbo, so its not 100% the same

Don't forget that there are 4 versions of Infini. The Infini I/II were S4, Infini III and IV were S5. They all came with Bilstein dampers and BBS wheels among other things you mentioned. The Infini I to III came available with factory colors I think. Only the IV had two color options.

The JDM trim models I know are : GT, GT-Limited, GT-X, GT-R and Infini.

The Turbo IIs had a shorter geared steering rack than the GTUs......wonder why they'd pick a longer model for the Infini?

This is a rough assumption for the order of the trim levels starting from the least luxurious:

GT
GT-R
GT-X
GT-Limited

Infini was the special model.
