Question What would make my car shut-off??PLEASE HELP!!!!

I wasn't in the car when it went off,but it was idling weird(bouncing rpms)before this happened.Heres what happened,I hadn't started the car in a week,I went out one day and started her up.She fired up perfect as usual,I reved it once or twice up to about 3k,let it settle into warm-up "mode",then went inside and left it to warm up.When I came back out about 10 minutes later, she was dead, and she wouldn't restart.I tried a few a more times than decided to leave it be for now. I came out the next day and tried starting it,I cranked it a few times and no go,I decided to try it one last time and she started!!! But heres the next problem, she was weak, like she was barely running.I reved it a lil' bit and it barely responded, when I let the clutch out she cut off.Since then it hasn't started, and that was about a month ago!!!
So far I've tried pulling the E.G.I. fuse and cranking, pulling the fuse and plugs then cranking(I guess to expell the extra gas),taking the plugs out and cleaning them(a few times).I've yet to do the atf trick, because I have mixed feelings on it.Some people swear by it and others damn it,claiming problems started only after doing the atf trick. I do smell gas when I open the hood and my plugs are usually wet also. But I'm thinking it might be one or more things, flooding is definately one of them. The others I'm thinking maybe a bad ground,or a vacuum leak.I'm pretty sure I killed my starter doing all these different things to get my car running again, because now when I turn the key it's just clicking and my volts are dropping from 12v(norm) to almost 8v(dead).I also noticed a bad drain in my battery.Could this be from bad grounding??

THANX FOR THE HELP!!

make sure your battery is up to full charge. You could have a bad alternator, which would have let you start the car but once the battery drained down it shut off. I'm kinda just guessing, but it would be smart to charge up your battery first just to see if that works. good luck.

my battery was brand new too, but it was still low and wouldn't start the car. it's probably not your problem but due to my recent car troubles, I would advise you to check your battery first even if you just got a flat tire. hehe

If it is your battery dying then it is probably your alternator. You can take it to an auto parts store and they will usually check it for free. It could also be the battery itself. Charge the battery and leave it disconnected; then let it sit for like 4 or 5 hours and check the voltage. If the voltage drops even 1 whole volt or more then your battery is no good. Remember to check the voltage after you charge it. I had a new battery and it went bad within the first few weeks I had it. If you bought your battery at advanced auto parts then it is probably a bad battery. I overheard an owner telling a employee to just refund money to people with battery problems because there has been so many issues with thier batteries.
