What will...

This is my first post, so I don't know if this goes here, but I'm getting a '91 RX-7 from my cousin, and the engine is locked up. What all (engines) can I put into the car, like what will fit?

Thanks.

The same thing that is in it, 89-91 nonturbo. You can also do a fairly straightforward swap to 89-91 turbo, but you need all associated parts to do the swap. Read up on that here. www.rotaryresurrection.com/turboconversion.htm

I don't recommend that you go after a t2 swap, you incur a lot of extra time and expense finding everything that you need. Just rebuild what is in there now and you'll have a nice setup to start out with.

nope nope, you already screwed up your 1st post. your supposed to ask how to fix it, well then, ill assume you wanted to ask that as well, your engine has probably carbon locked. What happens is over time, carbon builds up inside your engine, sometimes a large chuck of carbon can chip off and wedge btween your rotor and your rotor housing. you can use atf fluid or starter fluid to break down the carbon and let it unwedge its self. Really, no other engine fits in our car without some level of modification. The godfather of engine swaps to our cars is putting a japanese spec 20b 3 rotor cosmo engine into our cars, which requires alot of money (about 8K+) and alot of customization. some people tend to choose to put v8's in our cars as well, the only problem to this is it defeats the alot of the purpose of the car. Rx7's are very special because they are different from the rest of the "pack". the rotary engine along with the handling characteristics of these cars are the reason why people, including myself, buy these cars. Rotaries are very good and effiecient engines if well taken care of and they are lightwight and make alof of power for there size. so theres your answer, Sorta<- id say stick with the rotary power. -alex

IT should be noted that apex seal failure, oil system/bearing failure, internal coolant seal failure (water inside the engine = rust) and just plain being left to sit for a long time (locked seals) are all causes for locked engines. You do not know what you are dealing with until you take it apart.

True, but it would be asinine to not try the "ATF trick" before removing and dismantling the engine.

Unless you sell rebuilt 13b's; then removing the engine would be good advice.

if you want an extremely fast car that's more reliable go w/ a v8, fast car not as reliable TII engine, more reliable not as fast engine go w/ a n/a 13b. Either way, youre screwed on gas mileage... And dont bash on me rotary guys, just givin' my honest opinion, its not a crime.

I never said *not* to try the atf or any other restoration trick. HE is the one that said his engine was locked up, and HE was the one that asked about engine options.

***. I only give people what they ask for, nothing more, nothing less. I didnt even mention him pulling his engine, or me offering to build one for him.
