passing 2 semi trucks, 80/90 ish mph level ground. Passed both and started to slow down when I lost a lot of power. Pulled over, car was already off. Got it to start on 1 rotor, went another 2 miles on 1 rotor, still pulling 3 psi 40 mph then second rotor went bye bye. My guess is the FPR vac hose came off and I leaned it out. No proof though.

Had Just parked my 90 GXL and shut it off for about ten minutes to drop a friend off at a parking lot downtown. Jumped back in the car to head home, and it wouldn't start. Finally managed to get her to start but she wouldn't hold idle. Drove her around the parking lot once and decided to leave her there. And thats where she still sits (it was 3 nights ago).

painful memories, but... accellerating from a stop light shifting at 2500 or so (not full throttle even), shifted into 2nd and all the sudden my engine sounded like a 4 cylinder only firing on 2, and all the sudden i had near zero power. luckily i was only about 1/2 mile left to my girls house, so i made it ok and at least the evenning ended on a good note. found out i cracked an apex seal with only 22k on my streetported n/a

I was on the highway going home to oroville. On the stech on highway 70 going to to oroville. it was halfway between Sacramento and Yuba. I decided to see how fast i would get, but when i reach 100mph 4th i felt a sudden lose of power.. then i was driving the 40 miles home on one rotor. i blew a front apex seal. but i was lucky enough to hit 75mph on 1 rotor.. i was impress at how much power 1 rotor is..

stock 88t2 at the time- racing a stock transam(2002 or so) up to abput 110mph right next to him the entire time. pull up at the next light , we were going to race again, my car dies, finally get it restarted, take it to the car club meet, and it doesnt want to idle, i go run it hard a couple of times, feel slower and will only boost 5lbs. decide to take it home, and it wouldnt start again, finally get the motor apart and the rear rotor was full of coolant. shes ported and very happy now

It sucked when my engine blew, but it couldn't have happened at a better location, because I was only about 40 feet from my house! It was amazing because I was just returning from a 2 hour trip from my college campus and just before I got to my house I had a massive loss of power and my engine sounded like a small helicopter (very choppy). Had just enough power to make it up the hill to my house and then it stalled. Blown apex seal at 142,000 miles. Since then I have about 12,000 miles on my own rebuild.

my TII came with a bad coolant seal so nothing there.

rebuilt that engine and started modding it with upgraded turbo and fuel system, first failure was a chipped apex seal while doing a hard pull in 4th gear at 10psi on shitty gas, as i came to a stoplight off the highway it stalled and wouldn't restart and i had it towed to my shop. replaced the single apex seal and put in new fuel and retuned it.

next failure was while pushing the boost up, doing a highway pull at 11PM on the highway vs a mustang Mach 1 i hit just shy of 18psi of boost at about 100MPH and the rear iron cracked and sprayed oil all over the underside of the car and rear tires, lucky i didn't bite it myself.

third failure was shortly after replacing the cracked iron, i had fixed a wastegate issue and failed to turn down the boost enough to compensate so after one short WOT run in first gear it spiked to about 20PSI and the newly ported S5 rear iron cracked even wider than the original S4 TII one did.

now i have methanol AI, have determined that the stage 2 only peaks at 14PSI anyways and that 91 octane pump is only safe to 17 PSI of boost on most setups without race fuel or supplements.

thankfully my motor didn't go out while doing anything unspectacular, those are just sad stories.. mostly just from experimenting with the range of tuning and walls you will hit with it.

90 GXL, idling in the driveway, all my fault.
So, it was the weekend and I had some people over. I always move my car out of the garage because that is where the party always ends up. Start it up, back it down the driveway. Later I decide to move it to the yard. Next day I move it out of the yard back to the driveway. I never once let it warm up to temp.

Finally, the next morning, I hop in to go to work.
Fires right up, puttin on the shades, KA-BOOM!!! (and I mean KA-******-BA-BOOM)
Dead. Fireball actually left a black mark on my garage door I had to clean off. Drove it on one rotor to Garfinkle's house (2.6 miles) barely got it up to 45mph.

It was fun though, everytime I lifted off it would throw raging fireballs, and I think I expelled a 1/4 tank!! lol

1st motor... around 6500RPM in 4th at WOT, ran out of fuel. 15+psi + stock fuel system = dead motor. Old used motor.

2nd motor... 3500RPM in 3rd, 30% throttle, 5-6psi, just randomly detonated. That one pissed me off. Oh well, that motor was crap from day one anyways. Old used motor.

1st vert motor: at idle, in my driveway, 5 minutes after purchase. I was pretty pissed.

2nd vert motor died (coolant seals) slowly over a period of 2-3 months, so I did alot of things during that period.

I won.

But I blew a coolant seal, because my upper radiator hose burst. All apex seals still intact.
I broke down a 12A for rebuilding that had blown coolant seals, the rotor housings took some abuse from it, was anything in your engine messed up?

wow those are scary stories. but my motor blew when no one was in the car. sad story but for teh short version: feb 4th 2007, driving home from dropping my girl friend off. not sure of speed prolly bout 50 or 60. i was going down this road that me and abunch of my friends used to use topping out our cars, until the wreck,(because after 10pm this road is deserted, except for this night) but this pizza lady some how didn't see nor hear my car (which is rediculous because i had racing beat headers and presilencer w/ apexi n1 cat, super loud lol, and i had them sylvania super white driving lights(superbright)) but any way she came out of a drive way and smashed into my passenger side twisting the frame ******* throttle body and trans. it came out of gear, throttled all the way redlining, wouldn't shut off and slowly rolled to a stop where at that point i got out and got away. afterabout 20 minutes redlining, shooting fire out exhaust it finally went. that was on motor w/ 160k miles.

sadly i had to suffer watching it die, it was screaming in pain(well it seemed like it) sounded like the loudest lawnmower/weedeater you'll ever hear lol. all resulting in a completly blown motor, totaled 87 gxl no rust at all, week old exhaust system, and s5 tails(melted) due to the car catchin on fire from the flame thrower

MY CAR IS LOUDER THAN A WEEEDEATER AND BRIGHTER THAN A ******* HELIOPTER SPOTLIGHT AND YOU STILL ******* HIT ME!? WHAT THE **** IS WRONG WITH YOU WHY DO YOU HAVE A LICENSE YOU DUMB ******* *****!?

Thats what i would scream if that happened to me.

Personally i would have done something to turn it off, pulled the egi fuse, turned the key off.... hell ramming it into gear would stop it without pushing the clutch pedal. would need a new trans though.

This reminds me of the video of the vert where the bottom aught on fire when they tried to kill the engine.

haha wish i would have said that lol. tried turnin key wouldn't work and after that really i was in shock and pissed off so couldn't really think too much, and the hood was stuck shut from the bend in frame. kind of wish i would have thought about rammin into gear cause a transmission would have been better then losing the $1500 that i had put into it that previous week, and to this day (4 months later) i still haven't received any insurance money. :'(

Driving down the road at 90km/hr, going slightly up hill at 2-3in/vac.

11.0:1 on the WB

1150F EGT on both rotors - pre turbo.

400km on the rebuild.

No ping, burp, fart or bucking.

Lost a chunk of apex seal the size of termite, took out a housing and rotor

October 2003 with 126000 miles. Heading to a school, I was on a service call (computer tech), and I took a more scenic (but still direct) route. Just as I was about to make the last turn onto the road that the school was on, I down-shifted into third, heard a muted boom, lost power and the engine died out. The front apex seals went and the front rotor got toasted. Fortunately, I was able to limp home on one rotor.

88 na w/ exhaust and intake. foggy rainy day cant see a da mn thing and i get rearended. im like wtf.... but my car is sliding from the impact to the *** and hits the front left corner on car in front of me. i get a ticket for rearending someone... even though i was pushed, and the rear and front of the car totaled. it started and i drove it off the road... this happened in daytona florida right in front of the speedway on international speedway boulevard (daytona 500 ring a bell?). so i start doing body work for about 9 or 10 days, hood fender bumper(s) and quarter panel. driving my chevelle by the auction and i spot a midnight black 89 n/a gxl. so i pull over and check it out hell of a beautiful car. no rust no damage perfect black interior. no cracks in anything. everything works. bid $800 that night at the auction, i outbid an old guy to 1000 then outbid him again to 1200 and he stops bidding... and i win =) drive the car home. runs fine but loud bang when i accelerate (bad ujoint). swap drive shaft and exhaust and intake from the crashed car over to new one. drive for 2 weeks. go to movie theatre before work. go outside. turn over car... nuh nuh nuh bang! try again. click. so i call work "cars broke down, cant come in tonight" they say "ok, you're fired" im like SH IT... o well.. screw outback steakhouse. fire me for needing a 3rd day off in 9 months. *** holes. get a friend to come tow me to my house. check bat. cables for corosion. check batt. replace starter. no go. screw it good time to rebuild. no job 2k in the bank and bills paid for the month. yank the thing out. rear rotor apex failure. it came loose during startup nd lodged itself between rotor and housing. gouged the hell outta both of em (unusable) i just finished rebuilding it about an hr ago. getting the cherry picker on friday. getting a job after i go spend the rest of my money camping, whitewater kayaking, scaling, hiking, and mt. biking. i needed a vacation.
