Mine just would not start one day.

Front iron corroded away around the coolant seals...

But now my 91 Coupe has a street ported motor and TB mod.

Man, you guys all have great stories to go along with the shell out of cash. I should have added in my original post that even when Dad blew his all he did was run it out of gas and it never ran again. Atleast he sold it for more than he bought it for.

Last owner ran full exhaust/intake on stock turbo with stock fuel/efi. Ran, but hard starting led me to tear down the motor. Crack the corner of a apex seal, was missing 1/3 of a sideal and a corner seal was in half..

t2 motor I got for my n/a. Previous owner was running a bnr stage 4 with full exhaust/intake and no fuel upgrades. Motor came with a lopey idle sounding like a v8. Turbo spooled very slow. Compression test showed lower #s.
Cracked apex seal on each rotor. Both missing chunks, scaring brand new housings on a 5k motor... ******* idiots.

Running the 1/4 mile. Didnt realize my nitrous bottle was empty (damn heater). Sputtered to a 15 something. Then the car died and wouldnt start. After a few tries, got it to start but had to hold the idle. With a freshly filled bottle and a blown rear rotor, proceeded to run 14 flat at 100 with the clutch slipping and tires spinning. Then i drove it 50 miles home.

I thought I was to be failed too trying to recover the car to the shoulder as cars were passing through. It turns out the Torrington Bearing assembly were not assembled correctly, let alone the O-Ring mating the Front Cover to the Front Iron was substituted with a simple O-Ring. All this attributed to the builder. So Aaron Cake and I are rebuilding It and finishing up the poor streetporting that was done to begin with as of now. Not cool but oh well.

I do remember comparing the old apex seals with the new ones on the rebuild. Lets just say they were smaller by a good bit.

Reason for the failure: an abused engine by the owner over a five year period. Used car. I was the abuser.
pretty much the same story, but i was on my way to work

Exiting the highway.

Downshifting from 4th to 3rd.

As soon as I engaged 3rd gear and let off the clutch, the car bucked and let out a large backfire. I limped it home and it never restarted. with no plugs in the engine, there was one strong pulse, and 2 weak breaths. More like gasps actually!

Rebuild time.

I downshifted to 3rd on the highway going about 80...
the car made a pop sound but still ran fine, puched in the clutch and idled like crap. on the way back home raced a mustang Gt on the highway and still beat the crap out of it.lol

Turns out the little pop was me losing an apex seal.....

Mine was more of a gradual thing. It was actually a combination of things. It was July in central Texas, and the highs were between 100 and 110 everyday. First of all, the clutch on the fan went out, then the thermostat stuck. I got both those fixed, but I think that the damage was already done at that point. Im pretty sure the coolant seal was already on its way out, but when it over heated it cracked the block around the coolant seal. I ended up taking it to Pro Tech in Austin, because RP in Dallas only works on FD's now. They totally fucked me over, and I ended up taking it to Alamo Rotary in San Antonio (about 150 Miles away).
Edit: The car had 215k miles on it when it finally bit the dust, and it was running strong up until that point. In fact, for a good bit of the last 20k miles of its life, it was mainly a track car.

Drove mine to work in the morning then also out to lunch. When I went to start it at the end of the day, it turned over, ran for about 5 seconds then made a hellacious bang under the car, as if a giant was stomping his foot. Rear rotor was blown at 89,000 miles.

I should add, it was still daylight on a beautiful fall day, no electrical accessories on. Also, it seemed to be running stronger than ever for the whole week before.

I've heard a lot of people say it ran better than ever a couple of days before it blew...wonder why that is? (I'm still waiting for mine to run better than it ever did LOL)

Coming home at 4am in the morning i had just got off work, pulled up to a stop light and waited for it to turn. It did and i took off normally and i heard a clink and a grinding sound followed by massive plumes of blue smoke! The day before i put the engine in from the junk yard! Karack later found a bolt had fallen into the intake somehow and wedged itself inside the rotor!...lol he even showed me the rotor it had a bolt dent in it perfectly!..least to say i was pissed that night!

First engine blew while i was cruising in the country going about 35 and all of a sudden BBBRRRRRR RRAAAAAA BRRRRRRR aww **** rear rotor went out! limped it home angrly managed to take it too 85mph on one rotor too! motor had 205k on it! apex seal went!

Aww WTF? back from the dead!
