Question What type RX-7 do I have?

I just bought a 1988 RX-7 with 130,000 miles for $750. It runs great and looks very nice. It is an automatic. Has Power windows, power mirrors, power locks, sun roof, a 13B rotary and an updated tape/speaker setup.

Just need to know what type of RX-7 it is.

Here are some pics that may help! If you need more info, just let me know.

Thanks so much,

Dukakis

-Warm up engine (this is optional, but I do it)
-Cover important electrical components (alt, battery etc).
-Get some spray degreaser like GUNK. I like the foaming kind.
-Spray that stuff everywhere and from all angles.
-Scub the hard stuff with a sponge, brush etc. Let the other stuff just sit.
-Wait 15 minutes.
-Hose down engine bay. Don't use a lot of pressure.
-Let dry.
-Spray hoses and other components with engine dressing spray, or armor all etc.

Thats damn cheap. Definitly GXL ... You sure its a 88 ? Cause you got the same color rubber "thing" around the car and looks to be like a s5 steering wheel.

S4 steering wheels do not look like that trust me... They have the two horn buttons on the part leading to the outside of the steering wheel.

maybe not but i have a 88 with the steering wheel just like the one in the picture. I could be wrong but, i thought that an 88 was a s4. and also Dukakis claims that his car is an 88, so is mine so that is 2 s4's with that steering wheel. i don't know what your talking about. can someone varify this?

The steering wheel changed from the two spoke to a three spoke in '88. My current '86 has the old version two spoke, and my former '88 GXL had the standard '88 three spoke.

The rubber mouldings have obviously been painted or replaced with 10AE versions, they are standard S4 wide mouldings.

Yes I can, certain models like the 88 gxl and turboII's have this steering and all 88 GTU's have this same 3 spoke steering wheel. My 88 GTU has it.

Hope that clears that up.

NO NO NO! Brake cleaner attacks rubber and anything electrical. It is also not particularily paint safe.

I personally use Castrol Super Clean. Spray on engine cold, let it sit 5 minutes, then rinse off with low pressure water and immediately go for a drive to dry off the engine. May need to repeat several times and use a toothbrush, just make sure the engine is cool when you do so. Super Clean will corrode aluminium surfaces, so don't let it sit too long.

No, you are incorrect. The 86-87 steering wheel is the two spoke that has the thumb rests. The 88+ are the three spoke design.

He has an 88, not a 86-87. His steering wheel is correct for his model and year.

No, that is wrong as well.

All 88 models got the three spoke wheel.

Again only the 86-87 got the two spoke.
