Try a search and I'm sure you'll find more than enough information about how it works, how to replace it, etc, etc.

TPS = (T)otal (P)eice of (S)h...... er, you get the idea Or at least, that's what I think about the TPS on my car! Are you having any problems with your car? (as you were looking into it's cause on making a car run bad) Perhaps we can diagnose some for you

well i think you have commented on my over heating problem i am working on...

I am also having a problem with it starting.. When i get it started it runs like a charm... lots of power etc..

but when it has had some time to sit it seems to have some trouble starting..
its weird.. if it sits like an hour.. its impossible to get it going, but if i leave it overnight it seems its alittle easier.. but still has trouble.. at first when i get it started it smokes a bit and takes a few seconds to get up to a strong idle...

which makes me think there might be a problem with leaky injectors and its flooding as it sits.. but really i dont know... I pulled the plugs to see if they where in bad shape and there all right.. but one of the plugs was wet.. which smelled like gas.. but its hard to tell if thats the fluid or if it just smells like gas from it burning.

the guy i bought it off said its water because i have broken water seals but i do not belive so(thats a whole other thread)

TPS=Throttle Position Sensor. It's a variable resistor connected to the throttle butterfly that tells the ECU the position of the throttle.

As for your problem, it sounds like the standard hot start problem. Normal causes are leaky injectors and/or low compression. It's hard to tell if the injectors are leaking without some specialized tests. I say remove them and have them professionally cleaned for $20 a piece.

Most diesal shops will clean injectors. I wouldn't replace with used unless you first get the used ones cleaned, so might as well just have your existing ones done...

You can get new ones, but that's awefully expensive to use as a test.

How hard is it to get at the injectors and to get them out?
When you hear about "leaking" injectors causing flooding are these dirty or just defective?

You need to remove the upper intake to get the injectors. Not hard at all, though I've done it way too many times...The first time, expect it to take 2 to three hours to remove and install. Get a Haynes or factory manual.

Leaking injectors are normally just dirty.

On another note, this is my 4700th post.

Does that fuel injector cleaner ever work? Would that fix a leaky injector?

aswell, just to save a few bucks.. which injector would it be if the top right plug was the one that was wet... when looking at the motor from the drivers side its the top right..
