what are these lines?

What are those little light brown hoses that run net to the water pump? There are four of them and one of the connects to a nipple on top of the engine block under the intake manifold. When taking off my alternator the nut fell down there when I went to pull it up the line broke right at the nipple. Is this a major problem?

Great so I will have to tow my car now to Alamo Rotary. How much do you think it will cost to replace these lines?

You can drive it to the shop. It shouldnt hurt. The lines are about $20 a pop IIRC from mazdatrix. They are preformed. What sucks is, the labor they are gonna hit you for. You gotta take the UIM off.

ok I fixed it all I did was get a clear little hose and zip tied it to the oil hose and then zip tied it to the peice of hose that is connected to the engine. I started the car and oil ran through it with no leaking. Do you think thes will hold up?

yeah those damn lines are hard to get to and when you do get to them they break. you can get some stainless steel ones from rotorsportsracing.com. i would not rely on the old plastic ones, too damn breakable and to damn expensive for plastic tubing and bolts.

Thanks for the plug Cas Yep I do make them. $90 a set of 4 for forum folk, $100 off Ebay. Premixing is great but if you forget you are going to end up with big problems. To get to those lines you have to pull the upper intake. The biggest pain is the vaccuum lines. There are a couple that are just plain pain in the ***. Those are at the back.
When you do this replace the fuel injector seals. They are cheap and easy to do while you are there. Those are usually rock hard and crystalized and it does not take much to cause them to start leaking.
I always push that point because these are responsible for most engine fires on fuel injected cars.
I have popped a lot of hoods on 2nd gens at wrecking yards and seemingly the only reason the car was there was because the wiring harness was melted to the block because of $12 worth of seals

Here are some pics from when I was still working on making a better crimp. The last pic is the final crimp. All the ready made banjo fittings were either too bulky where the lines attach and made for a sloppy looking install or were just too expensive to be practical.
