do you know what the ports in a rotary engine look like? If not, go to www.howstuffworks.com and search rotary engine. Lots of neat pics.

Street porting is when you increase the size of the ports. Its like taking a piston engine and giving it a slightly bigger cam.

There are different types of porting (different shapes and sizes). Go to http://www.mazdatrix.com/s.htm to see them.

Port opens no earlier than the arc scribed by the leading edge of opening side seal, and closes as late as the builder wants. No bridges, holes, etc. outside of the port opening.

(this is the SCCA road racing definition). Basically you increase the port timing, like a cam on a piston engine. You can make the port bigger if you want, and you can even hog out the port runners if you don't like low end torque.

Street Porting is simply allowing the intake phase to begin earlier and close later, it's up to the porter where it begins and stops. As stated earlier check mazdatrix.com for pics (iirc). Again, as stated above, if you are familiar with the piston engine, it's similar to changing the cam profile.

BlaCkPlaGUE I did use the search engine but because it street porting being talked in some many different ways I went through a number of posts and only got part answers. All I am trying to do here is learn. If you are going to spend the time to just get mad at me go find something else to do.
Thank you to everyone that helped. How much larger do they normally enlarge the ports by?

The mazdatrix site has a nice explanation of porting and the different styles. I guess you could compare porting on a rotary to getting a cam and porting the heads in a piston engine since it will increase flow and can change the time at which the air/fuel enters the combustion chamber

mild port on there is also called a street port because it still allows the car to maintain driveability and be driven on the street.
