what starter did i buy?

Hello all,
I recently bought this starter from Ebay. It said it was for 86-91 auto. I know the auto and T2 share the same part#. When I stuffed it in my T2 trans it was real tight and didn't work properly. I took it out and when its out it works great. I think they sent me the wrong thing. Did they send me a manual, non turbo starter?

Not true. They have different part numbers. The AT starter motor ( 2 kW) is more powerful than the T2 starter motor (1.4 kW). I do believe that the AT starter motor will directly swap out with the T2 starter motor. Maybe they sent you the wrong part or it was mis-boxed?

Mazda had three starters,
N326-18-400 which is the NA, the EPC doesn't have the kw, but its around 1.4
N327-18-400 which was the Automatic, 2kw
and the Turbo Manual N318-18-400, 1.4kw, the difference between the NA manual and this one is the nose.

some rebuilders (like Bosch) just make the turbo and automatic the same, and it is listed as 2kw (mine was 0kw out of the box... the Rx8 starters were 2kw, and its way different than the aftermarket 2kw)
