Would I be good running a 225/50/16?

Couldn't imagine it being a problem, I think there was someone on here running 245 ?

You could run a 245. It will definitely stick out, but its doable. 225s don't bulge too badly.

225/50's will likely rub on the front spring perch. Mine did.

5mm spacer and longer studs to accommodate.

If I was doing it again, I would go to 215/50's.

The answer to the OPs question will depend on what suspension/springs he's running, I think. I ran a 225/50-16 on wheels with a +38 offset (TII is +40) for a while. This setup rubbed on the front spring perches on my '88 GTU ("hard" suspension with larger springs like the TII) but did not rub on my '90 GTU (base suspension with smaller springs).

Depending on make/model of tire, 225/50-16 will fit on all corners, although tight in the front
Although slightly larger than OE, I have 215/55-16 (F) and 235/50-16 (R).

Just an FYI-When these cars were new the size was to be 215/55-16, but as that was not a popular size at that time, hence 205/55-16.

ahh got ya.

my cars dropped on tein springs so i guess we shall see. i've come to figure out the only true way to figure out if they'll rub or not is to try them on. To many variables to calculate .. i.e. +40 225/50/16 on one car might not fit on the same car with an identical setup.
