What size is the stock turbo?

Was just wondering the size of my turbo on my 87 TII. What would be a good upgrade to do to it in the future and what kind of HP gains could I see from it? Thanks alot.

for big boost, the t4 (t04e) is perfect.

I am talking about just like upgrading the stock turbo, like the compressor wheel or having it clipped. Does anyone have experience with this and can offer a recommendation? Thanks alot.

I'm currious about this process too. Basically what would I want to do before upgrading to a t04? I would suspect bigger fuel pump, probably 720 secondaries, and at least a safc. BTW woudld a bandaid ecu be ok with that or would I need to get a stand alone. I'm a rotary AND boost newbie so I'm trying to learn as best as can so bear with me ( :

It's not quite that simple. There are many different parts of the turbo that can be measured. Wheel sizes (inducer and exducer), blade counts, A/R ratios, etc. Exactly what do you want to know? In terms of horsepower, it's good for around 250fwhp (anyone got a better number?) but shouldn't be taken past 10psi. An upgrade depends on how much power you want and, more importantly, how much money you want to spend.

Well first off I more have a 1/4 mile time slip to get-thats my goal for now. I really wanna break into the 12s. Can I do this by just having the stock turbo upgraded or would I need to get a whole new turbo? What kind of HP would I need to get this 1/4 time? Thanks alot.

I know up where I live it would take more than a modified stock turbo to get near the 12's. I would say your best bet would be to run a full T04e setup, you can gain lots of info in the single turbo section regarding sizing. However this is a pretty major upgrade. You could also go with a hybrid turbo like many people on this forum myself included have opted for. It uses a slightly larger compressor housing and possibly a more aggresive wheel trim, but utilizes the stock exhuast side. This makes it's "bolt up" ability slightly easier than a full TO4 mainly cause you don't have to worry about manifold, downpipe, wastegate etc... Once again lots of info can be found in the single turbo section.

the stock turbos are basically a T03 0.88A/R divided housing for the Series 4 and a T3 1.0A/R divided housing for the series 5, the turbine is definitly not of the HIGH flowing design
