What should I use to clean Rotors.
Hey guys, there was a guy on the threads not too long ago, maybe 2 weeks ago that had a couple of pics posted of some REALLY REALLY CLEAN rotors. I would like to know how he got them that clean and if its really ok to do it like that. I did read his post, but i didnt really pay any attention to it, then i realized, i have used rotors in my room and i'm getting used irons, might as well clean em up while i'm waiting for the rest of my parts. If anyone has the link to that guys thread (yes i've searched) or knows how to get my rotors that clean let me know.
Parts wash and something else is what i recall.

I think they are TOO clean! :P
I think the rotors were scrubbed too much.
The FSM shows there are special coatings in special areas that you shouldn't be scrubbing to the bare metal.
Hell, who listens to me anyways... :P
Oh, and I wouldn't go using compressed air either...
That could shoot moisture into places were you don't want it (under the bearings) that could be very bad.

Raptor, i did search so get off my ***, i probably just overlooked it.
Anyway Thank you Ted, i was thinking to myself that i would never use soap and water on my rotors anyway. Anyway any recommendation as to what i should use to clean them, like carb cleaner or something?

I used 1:1 water and Zep inudstrial purple cleaner, which I got at Home Depot, and put it in a 5 gallon bucket on a mesh box to keep it out of the sediment. I let mine sit for about 4 hours (letting it sit longer won't hurt anything, just makes them cleaner), and then (with gloves, this stuff will kill your hands) wiped the rotors, used an old side seal to sweep out the carbon from all grooves. The carbon pretty much turns into jelly that wipes clean.
Afterwards rinse them in water, inspect, and dry out with compressed air, spray with lots of WD-40 and more compressed air.
I didn't take any pictures, but someone did the same thing on Nopistons.com and posted pics. This is the least labor intensive way, and IMO, yields the best results without marring the coating on the sides of the rotors.
