What should i do body kit, sell it and buy a turbo? NEED ADVICE PLSE

hi i have a 86 base that i have redone the interior(all black). i have rebuilt the motor, all new wiring harness, lowered, aftermarket wheels, tires. I also have a header with custom exhaust. Oh i put power windows in it with a pretty good stereo(mp3 deck, one 10" w7, alpine components) I really like my rx7 but im wondering what i should do next. I have about a grand to work with right now. I was thinking the gp drift kit. I also was thinking of painted it myself(work at body shop) then selling it. I really want a tII. How much do you think my car would be worth? Has about 90k on her.

thanks,
kevin

you COULD probably get a turbo set up out of a grand
but its not quite enough
save that money or maybe some suspension mod

uhhh If you're thinking of investing that grand then selling it. DONT. When you invest 1 grand into a car...it raises the value of the car like 500 or less...its a sad world BUT since you're redone a lot of stuff you can save up a bit more and do the turbo conversion. That is of course if you plan on keeping the car. I'm dumping all my money into my car, but I will never sell it

Wow with all that on a fresh motor you are going to lose your butt on selling it. If you want a TII and you got that much work done man turbo your N/A and you get to save your insurance from raping you.

It sounds like you want a turbo. If I ever have a good body in my hands and want to turbo it I would swap a 13bT in it. If it was a fresh motor in your case or any where under 65k I would personaly not flinch at turboing my N/A.

Hope this helps.

are you talking tII swap or turbo the na. Ive looked at both and they really seem kinda costly. Well at least for the tII swap. Rememver i have 4 lugs as well. I want to turbo it but it looks costly. I mean you figure in the manifolds, intercooler, turbo timer, boost controller, guages, afc injectors, piping etc then im easily way over my budget of right around 1-2 grand. I also would love to TII swap my na but you need the tII tranny unless you want to break stuff. Then the rear end is needed. Im just wondering if i could get around 3500 or so for my car. If i can that would be awesome, with that money i could probably get a good condition TII. I need some help lol. Somebody selling there TII or willing to trade for a really nice, babied 86 with like 1500 cash? see ya,
kevin.

Neither man, dont buy any more parts for your car. You live in Denver, Summer is here an you guys have some nice race tracks. Buy a day pass and run your car all day. You be glad you did afterward. Buy the end of the day you'll know what you need the most. Most likely brakes or suspension.

Read over my post again. I sugest both options depending on your situation. Alot of members have done the convershions at very impresive price ranges and others have spend alot of $. You have 4 lugs, and......? SonicRat has ran his T-N/A on all N/A components and was doing great. I dont know but I think Aaron Cake was runing a N/A at some point. The N/A rear end holds fine under 90% of conditions. Mine is holding up great at 6psi with FMIC. TII Trany you can pick up for around 3 to 500$.

Ither way nothing is cheep. You can take chances and get some great deals like t3/t4's from junkyards for under 100$ you can rip a IC off some car in junk yard meany members have there stock TMIC for under 50$ I say check with SonicRat on what he wants to charge for the adaptors and oil lines you need. If you realy want you can convert a drive shaft for 75 to 100$ as I did. Then scroung the rest. Needles to say it is time consuming.

If you realy are not that attached to your car then no probs selling it. I get attached to mine when I do all the work and hate to get ride of them no matter what. If you want a TII hey more power to you. Just puting some sugeshtions to be just as good or have a lil more benafits in my view.

they have a guys selling an s5 tII jspec engine, trany and wiring harness for like 900 bucks in the for sale section. Get that and do a swap, done! Or you could by that now then sell all your stuff you have now (engine, trany and wiring harness) and get that jspec rebuilt with a street port

From my perspective id keep the car you have since youve done so much to it and know what you have. Id be afraid to sell "oll reliable" for a turbo that you havent got a clue what its life has been like. I agree with one of the above posts, find a way to track it or autox it and then that will give you a bigger perspective on what you should do next. For me it would be suspension. When i had my gsl-se i autocrossed it against a bunch of cars faster than me but id win because i had the brakes and suspension to put me ahead of the game. If anything from personal experience id spend some of that money on a racing school or something. I did it and learned a ton and had a blast in the process and now feel like a much better driver now. The more and more i get consumed by these cars i feel that if only i was fully capable to drive them to their full potential that i would be able to molest just about anything within reason on a roadcourse. But im a full believer in brakes and suspension. Whatever you do good luck with it. Sell your base really cheap to me!

^^ good advice! I'm always caught up in the go fast aspect of the cars and never really think about the suspension and breaks. Usually it's not hp that wins races like therotaryrocket was saying its being able to controll the car around corners.

Absolutely! Consistency in any racing is the best. The goal in my racing is always to be faster and how? Seat time seat time seat time seat time and each ride to go longer then the last make less mistakes and find a faster way to do that corner or take another line. You have to keep your speed up and consistent. If your entry speed is smooth and faster your exit speed will be much faster. So if you enter the corner at 2mph faster then before your exit speed will probably be around 8mph faster and that causes your straightaway speed to be increased from a start of 8mph and increase from there. A .2sec+ corner can increase your track time buy .8sec over all and now multiply that buy how many corners there are. WOW!

Just my .1c on the idea of road or autoX if he is interested in that or anyone.

well all this sounds good but ive already done a couple autocross events. It was really fun but it takes money for sure. In 2 solo 2 events i had to buy a new set of rear tires lol. I love it though. Maybe ill sell my base and build a pure race car with the 1st gen rolling chassis that i have hehe.
