i have a 91 n/a with a foam intake, and i shift between 4500 and 5500 when driving normal and at about 6500-7000 when driving for fun. it seems like it deosnt really want to pull for me after about 7000.

I shift at 3800-4000k. Somtimes higher and around 5k going up hill. My car pulls past 7k and only starts making a pulling feeling at about 6k. When Racing I shift at 8200

4500 rpm for me, just to make sure I keep the secondary injectors active. Dunno if it helps to prevent them from clogging or anything, but its what I do.
7500 when accelerating, use buzzer as a shift reminder.

What the hell is wrong with some of you guys shifting at around 7500-8000 for normal driving?? Are you serious??
That seems a little high to me. I shift around 4000-4500 and sometimes that seems like I am winding it out too far just for normal, everyday driving.

They're not saying to rev it that high for every shift. I do it that high a couple times per trip, be it long or short, once the engine is warm, of course. Revving a rotary that high isn't all that bad. Not revving it up that high every now and then is.

if you're just commuting and wanna save gas...shift at 3-4K...thast what i do...
if the car is fully warmed up and you're up for some "spirited" driving or wanna pass someone...drop it a gear or two and bring it up to 8K...thats what i do
redlining your car won't hurt it. the car goes under MORE stress when you simply start it up or are stop and go in traffic. once the parts are in motion you're not harming anything...

i shift at 7500-8000rpm at least a few times per commute, but shift normally from 4500-6000rpm just by natural feel. In the upper RPMs 7K+ the shift **** starts shaking violently to where its hard to hold on(i need an engine brace/new mounts probably) Sometimes on my friday night commute home after being w/ my friends around 12:00, i'll drive for 10 minutes w/ my engine at 6000+ rpms. Hey, she pulls hard up there and feels good. Just keep a close eye on your temp gauge, and make sure oil pressure is steady. (all you can do w/out aftermarket gauges) When cold, i usually shift around 3-4k rpm, and when REALLY cold (im talkin engine struggles to even start) i shift at below 3k. Just make sure your engine is warm, and doesnt overheat

Another way to look at this....
Generally speaking, you want to keep the R's above 4 grand. So, the shift point should be one where after upshifting, you end up around 4,000 rpm.
That would call for shifting between 6-7 grand, right?

Just don't take it much past 8500. With a stock car, there's probably not much advantage of going over the redline. But, rotary engine's aren't easily harmed by exceeding redline like piston engines can be (I hit 9000 rmp on a miss-shift once, no problem, and that's with an 86 NA 7000rpm redline). You'll probably fry your alternator before you fry your motor. Welcome to the rotary world!
