What S5 model is this?

Before anyone says anything, yes I've looked at the specification thread. I have no idea what this car is.

A local guy has a Turbo II for sale, he told me it's a 1989. He told me he's had it for over a decade and got it the way it is. I am interested in buying the car, but there are a TON of things throwing me off. I don't have the VIN # to confirm anything, but here are some details I noticed:

Turbo II engine (I am unsure if it's an S4 or S5 engine - how can I tell?)
Turbo S4 gauge cluster (with cruise control)
"Turbo II" stickers on the fenders
Turbo II hood
Turbo II S4 mirrors (not S5... strange)
S5 bumpers and molding
No TII side skirts
No rear wiper
No sunroof
S5 radio surround
S5 seat belts
S5 arm rest
S4 shift ****
No power windows... door panels have speakers, but no map pocket
Rear speaker covers don't have the hooks for the cargo cover
S5 GTUs/TII 16" wheels
Has air conditioning

My first guess is that this is actually some build from ages ago... maybe an S4 TII swap into a GTU? Anyone else have any guesses?

If it has the automatic seatbelts it probably is a S5 chassis, with a S4 engine setup tossed in (that explains the cluster, shift ****)

I think only base models and GTU/GTUs came without sunroof - that goes together with the lack of a rear wiper, and crank windows since it was probably a bare-bones car.

It's gotta be a GTU/GTUs. How can I tell if it was a GTUs? The wheels are GTUs/TII wheels, but those could have been swapped too.

I'd say it's a S5 GTU, with a turbo swap.

You can tell the engine series by looking at the OMP, if it's mechanical it's S4, electronic, S5.

GTU came with single piston front brakes(from the factory), and the only car available with the sunroof as an option. GTUs was not available in 89 so it sounds like a GTU.

They were available in 89, but only 100 of them.

Actually '89 was the first year of the GTUs with approx 1000 sold from what I've read. Was sold at the start of '90 but discontinued early on with 100 units sold in 1990.

I believe the GTUs had the same seats as the TII with cloth interior. If it has 4 piston front brakes it probably started as a GTUs. As mentioned in '89 GTU had single piston calipers.

Sounds like an S5 GTU with an s4 t2 swap.

The car is what it is. I don't understand why it matters what it was.

I tend to prefer the term, "Frankenseven".
