Question what resistance do 5th,6th ports have to the touch?

Was just curious as to what kinda resistance the 5th and 6th ports have when you push on them manually.

I know about the back pressure opening them @ 1.2psi and 2.1 all the way.

I did the grease method and the grease didn't budge. I don't wanna wire them shut either.

Before I go taking them apart, I was just curious as to how freely they should move to the touch (pushing the rod inwards with finger). On mine there seems to be enough resistance to hurt the tip of your finger after a few attempts.

How much power loss without those little buddies?

the actual rods themselves should move freely, they should drop if you lift them up and let them go...

how much power would you lose? hard to say, mostly it will just seem to be sluggish from about 5,000 to the redline........as oppose to pulling consitently from about 4,000 on up

The rods should drop?? Confused...
I push down on the rods and they sorta spring back up, def not smoothly.

Anyone else??? If you are looking down at the rod, the little hinge device is on top. Doesn't it retract upwards if you push it down?

Well since you didn't mention series its hard to say.

Some are pull, some are push... depends on series.

But they only move one way (regardless of series) They should rest at the stop. and move away from the stop when active. They should move freely with little force, and smoothly. If they don't chances are they are gummed up and dirty.

Good ole Icemark!

S4, so I'm assuming push. Yeah, mine don't really move freely or smoothly, but do move with a little force. Is that enough for my backpressure to not be sufficient in operating the ports?

S3 and S4 push down.

They should move easy by hand. If they don't they probably are gunked up.

Push down, 10-4.

Looks like it's time to clean those little bad boys. Will I need any new gaskets for any dismantling during the process?

Thanks Icemark

I notice quite a bit of power loss in the low to mid rpm's with the ports ziptied open for a test run.. seemed like the torque dropped alot. I cant take my car past 5k w/o laying down a James Bond smoke screen, so mid range power is ideal for me.. (I have a RB header w/ a Borla catback).

CrypticApathy, have you noticed a mid range power drop w/ the ports wired open?

no not really, but they werent hooked up when i bought the car due to headers. so i cant say i have anything to base it off of. They werent working before and with them being open all the tiem they are working. ive gained top end power i have noticed that.

if you wire them closed then you'll have more low end power, and a loss of high end, and if you wire them open you will have more top end power, but a loss of low end power
