what is the oil pressure for the turbo?

I think im giving my turbo too much oil pressure and its blowing oil past the seals. Ive tried three different turbos, and all the same billowing smoke. Ive also tried it with bypassing the turbo making it run like an NA and there is no smoke then.

So ive came to the conclusion that i must be giving the turbo too much oil pressure. If i have my math right, it should be around 8psi (F=P(A).. F = 60(.125) = ~8psi)

Its a NA-T and for some reason its been blowing oil past every turbo so far. The only other thing it could be is my drain is clogged or kinked or something. But I'll check that tomorow anyway.

Thanks,
Jason

Stock turbo? Aftermarket turbo? How is your drain arranged? Ball bearing? Journal bearing? Where are you getting your oil feed?

I've a na to turbo and the oil feed comes from the left side of the front side housing oil passage and that pressure is what you see on the oil pressure gauge. Never measured it at the turbo....but its coming right off the oil feed passage for the bearings.

Like mentioned above, I'd suspect your return line from the turbo to the front/cover/pan.

stock turbo, oil feed is comming off braided oil lines from the rear of my block. And the return is goin to the oil pan.

Yea, turns out when I tweaked the return pipe, it kinked it enough to build up the pressure.

Would having the oil feed line from the same spot of the oil pressure sending unit be too much?

The pressure there is no more/no less than where the stock TurboII gets it's from.

A possible reason the oil is blowing past the seals could be a relation between oil pressure and volume into the turbo. Too much oil in the turbo under pressure and it's got to go somewhere if the drain can't cope. Possibly restrict the flow?
