What Is the Oil Pressure Supposed To Be?

Mine reads about 30psi at idle, and 60-63ish under WOT. Is this good?

Mine is the same way Rico and it probably gets closer to 65 at WOT.

I was just checking. At the RB site, I was checkin out the plate for installing oil pressure/temp sensors, and it said that above 3k RPM, oil pressure should be 71psi. I have never seen above 65psi, so I got scared. I really do need to premix...

Stock. And like I said, it has NEVER dropped below 30-35psi. It just never goes over 65psi.

To find out what your Real oil pressure is, get a mechanical gauge from the auto store and plug it in. You cannot rely on the factory gauge. Even the factory service manual has the technician using a mechanical gauge to determine the oil pressure. Seems they know something about the accuracy of the gauge that came with the car. The mechanical gauge can be dispensed with once you determine what your real oil pressure is. See the Oil section in the factory service manual , online at http://iluvmyrx7.com

P.S. Send me your tired old sending unit and I'll make it read anything you want. Want 90psi? Done. Want 60psi?Done deal. I'll give you 70psi by just turning the key to on. humor, please.

EDIT: After careful review, go back and read http://fc3s-pro.com/TECH/MODS/EL/opress.htm and the part where it highlites GAUGES.

The factory gauges suck, we all realize that.

The real reason it is there is to act as a warning if something is seriously wrong.

I would be highly suspicious if I went out to my car and went to work with 30/60 (idle/WOT) psi and then was running something like 15/40 on the way home. Too much of a difference would indicate a problem.

Rico, I run even lower than that on my car right now. I am only pushing around 50-55 psi at WOT and I idle at 30. I will be changing my oil and going back to the stuff I used all last summer when I had proper oil pressure. I used a different weight when I changed it last b/c of the cold temps.

Sounds good to me, though. Good luck.

I took her around the block at diffetent speeds and gears, and watched the gauge. Started up and went to 35 after 2 seconds. Then, at WOT, stayed at 65. I think I am ok. Thanks guys!!

I think you may have skipped everything that has been typed in the six previous posts.

Reading the stock gauge dosn't tell you what the engine is really doing. Other than it does have pressure. The guage dosn't move as fast as the pressure changes in an engine. Put an aftermarket gauge and you note it is rather lively compared to the stock gauge.

If you are truely concerned you can build a mechanical pressure tester for under $10.

Go to lowes and make something work.
