If you look in your owner's manual, Mazda recommends a minimum of 87 octane. If you notice any problems with 87, then try a different brand, or move up to the next higher octane. Your engine should work just fine with 87 unless it is out of tune, has deposits, is modified to create more boost than intended, and/or if your geographic area uses really crummy RFG. Keep in mind that some areas switch to "winter" gas, so you may notice a change in performance seasonally.

Also, FYI:
All grades of pump gas have the same detergents for a given brand.
All grades of pump gas have similar energy content (ie power).
The octane rating is an anti-knock rating, and that's all.
