My old motor had 92/91 it's whole life until I put in some 87 one day because I was broke (after all I did get the car for free!) and I did notice a little bit of an improvement. My only problem was that motor also like to ping so I had to go back to the higher octanes to keep it from blowing. My replacement motor has a strict diet of 87 octane and loves it.
