what kind of lsd does the fc have?

i have an 87 gxl and i know that ist has a stock lsd, although it is tired and chooses when it wants to lock up, but is it a 1, 1.5, or 2 way and is it clutch, viscous, or helical?

Thanks David

If it's not factory, then we have no idea.

I think almost all factory LSD's are 2-way, and most are clutch units.

The S4 LSD is a clutch type.
The S5 LSD is a viscous type.
The FD LSD is a helical type (Torsen).

definatly not 2 way. I drift my car alot and i'm pretty sure it only locks on accel. Hard accel, and with 112000 miles it has a mind of its own which can really scare the **** out you.
The TII model has a 2 way though. At least I think it does.

I drive effectively the same car as you (s4 GXL), and I concluded a while back that we're using a 1-way Clutch type LSD, though I'm not sure that's accurate. I know for sure that it is a clutch-type, and this may help you determine whether it's 1-, 1.5-, or 2-way, if you understand its behavior: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited...rque_Activated

However, there is another guy who goes to school with me who drifts his s4 GXL pretty well, and I believe he's stock, so maybe it's two-way?

As far as I am aware none of the factory LSDs for the S4 and 5's are two way.
S4 is a 1 way clutch pack or mechanical diff and s5 is a crappy viscous diff.

I thought 2 way lsd's were the aggresive type usually used in drag and drifting? They get lockup on accel and deceleration, no?
