I just paid $3.31 for regular (87) and that was at the cheapest station around... i saw regular going for $3.39 closer to downtown san diego. We'll never see gas for $2.89 around here again... never, ever! *cries*
I run 87octane pump gas in my 90 TII but I add 2-stroke oil and premix to 50:1. It certainly reduces the octane efficiency to like 85 or so, but it will keep the internals wearing well and lasting longer. The performance is the same as 91 or 92 octane but without lining the pockets of the oil billionaires any more than I must.
btw: prices were from $2.87 - 3.03/gallon in northern Delaware today. I'm still holding out hope for $1.50 gas again!

I run straight 87, which is what the owner's manual recommends for stock cars. I don't know why anyone would think that the manual is wrong, unless they had a modified turbo or SC car. You're just wasting money putting 91/93 into a stock car, it offers no further protection against detonation since a well-tuned car won't be at risk of detonating anyway.
As for gas brands, I use any that are on that top tier list, and stay away from any that are not. The exception to that rule is bp/Amaco Ultmate, which meets top tier gas conditions, the reason why it's not on the list is because its regular and plus grades don't meet the requirements.

i ran my T2 on 87 for over a year at 90 miles per round trip a day, stock boost levels and properly maintained it is not a risk. just don't think you can do it if you start upping the boost or upgrade your turbo and run anything over stock boost levels.

Since this is probably the 3rd most reposted topic here (the 1st and 2nd are "how do I turbo my NA?" and "what is the best oil?") I'm going to close the thread. The answer has been posted, is available in the FAQ, can be easily searched, and is in the owners manual.
