There ya go. It rates all the stock intercoolers out.

I'm gonna have to STRONGLY disagree with you on that one, have you seen Brain Cain's modified stock i/c running as water to air? he's putting 425rwhp (500 flywheel HP) thru a stock i/c

i did the weld 2 stock ones together and fabricated some brackets for it and i have had no prob with it whatsoever, it only cost me 100 buck too, 30 for the 2nd i/c, 20 to have them welded and the rest was piping from home depot.

My front mounted TII IC does an excellant job. Extended runs on the highway at 10PSI have showed the intercooler outlet pipe only slightly warm to the touch. The inlet pipe was very hot.

has anyone else seen those bendable IC pipes on ebay? I saw an auction that has those and said that they did not disrupt airflow and were rates at like 25 psi. Those would make a custom fmic job soooo much easier. What do you guys think about em?

The Volvo guy steps up...
First off, not all Turbo Volvos have intercoolers. My car is an example. The 240 was the first car that Volvo turbocharged, but the '82 through '83 model years didn't have an IC. (After that, in '83.5, they called it the "Turbo+") The 700 series turbo cars always had intercoolers, but not all of them had the "Turbo Intercooler" emblem on the back.
Furthermore, that IC is the same on all the 700 series cars - I've never actually seen one from a 240, but it pisses me off that my parent's couldn't have waited for half a year to buy the car, heh.
Furthermore, they are pretty godamn near bulletproof, as some of the more hardcore Volvo guys have run 25+ PSI on them, I believe. Keep in mind that it's the same basic design as Volvo uses on their turbodiesel semis, which run mighty fuckloads of boost as well.

That's all. Any other questions?

In terms of outright airflow, the aftermarket Trust core convincingly proved to be the best in this group of fifteen. The best heatsink award goes to the Subaru STi intercooler (even without the added weight of its aluminium Y-pipe). But - most importantly - the overall winner must surely be the Mazda Series 4 and 6 RX7 intercoolers. Costing a mere $200 each, these flowed very well and had adequate heat-sinking abilities. On the same value-for-money basis, other honourable mentions are the Celica GT4 and the RX7 Series 5 intercoolers.

Ok, look at the pictures...

Now go out and look at your stock shroud...

Now go back and look at the pictures again, just incase you missed something...

Now think: CAn it be done? Yeah, prolly, if you want to.... I guess
Should it be done? not really... why not upgrade/downgrade to an electric fan?
