What the hell is this???? (pic)

so i was roaming around my engine bay and i spotted this unusual openning.

the engine bay pic shows where it is located, my theory is that its the air injection outlet that should lead to the cat???

Split-air pipe outlet. This is the one that will go to the side of the cat.

you dont even need a block off plate, without the air pump/ ACV its just dead space.

wait... i just saw the air pump in there, and the ACV. so you still have emissions equipment? what about the cat? i am assuming since you live in cali, you have emissions equipment. in which case my post was pointless. I'm gonna stop talking now.
