What happens when you try to hurry
Okay, posted a thread a couple weeks ago, but haven't had any time to work since... due to large amounts of other stuff to do... but now i got a problem. I just put a ported 88 GXL motor in my 88 base and did all the **** and now it won't start.
I found out that I AM getting fuel as I had a hole in a fuel hose that I didn't see LoL... but unfortunately I'm not getting any spark. Plugs are fine, wires are good, I even tried different coils. Also, sometimes the battery acts like it doesn't have enough power to even make the starter click. I've tested it twice and it always gets about 550-560 CCA's (rated at 600) so it should work...
Determining factors: none of the wires on the oil pan are connected (but that wouldn't keep it from starting would it?)... and the alt isn't on yet LoL... neither is AC or PS. Plus there's some solenoid (or a wire that looks like it would go to one) that also isn't connected coming from under the VDI.
Several problems, but they shouldn't keep the spark plugs from sparking would they?

It's hard to explain in layman's terms, but the alt itself is a very important "ground" for your emissions harness circuits (with the charging wire connected, it completes the circuit). To put it another way, let's say the battery polarity was reversed- without the alt connected, you'd have no ground wire from the engine to the chassis. Now swap that around in your head- you have no power to complete your engine grounds' circuits.

But you can start your car without emmissions crap hooked up, no?
And if your starter isn't clicking sometimes, your solenoid might be on its way out.

ya... okay... i put the alt in... with no belt LoL... but it still didn't spark... if i charge the batt (which i think is about gone) the starter will turn over, but it never gets a spark.
Also, it looks like there is a solenoid wire (it looks like the connector for the starter solenoid) sticking out by the VDI on the psgr side. What is this?

Did you hook up the wiring to the alt? Including the plug at the back...
Is your main relay clicking when you turn the key? (near the trailing coil pack, bolted to the side there...)

it IS a good batt... its just about dead from my abuse... as in low voltage hehe... but its charging... 50A intermittent!
Actually, change of plans.. Im gonna put a 720 CCA battery in there from another rx7... and your talking about the one that clicks when you turn the key to 'start'?

Yep, several things "click" when you go to start, the main relay should click on when you turn the key on, just before "start". At this point I'd say the weak batt is messing with you...

well... i think i figured out part of the problem... Some moron didn't put the key back in the shaft when the engine was put together.
I think part of the lack of spark was due to lack of CAS LoL... so guess what I'm doing now?
