most gauges have similar temps. i would say one that covers from 160-250 would be fine. you want to be running around 185ish i think. anything up to 230 is "safe" as long as it doesnt stay that hot.

no, but get an electrical one, much easier to install. I couldn't find many that went high enought though. definatly get one that goes up to 240-250F.

if your temp gauge goes to 250, shut off your car!

More precisely, if your temp gauge goes to 250, kiss your motor goodbye.

www.autometer.com

They make one that goes that high. It is in the mail for my '86.

I got them from www.carparts.com. If you search for discounts you can find 10% discounts or free shipping. Generally it is about the same when I bought the gauge and pod. Shipping was about 7$ and so was the 10% discount.

gauge sending units

Do the water temp gauges come with thier own sending unit? Where does one install the sending unit?

I am thinking of buying one of these, but I do not like the idea of getting the instructions in the box AFTER buying it.

the reason I didn't buy the autometer electric is because you can't read them... they are 1/4 or 1/2 sweep. with lines at like 50,125,250 or something. you have no idea what temp you are at even staring right at the gauge.

I picked up a nordskog from summit. $55usd with sender (buy seperate, autometer come with) it's a dig LCD and has memery recall. up to 300F. acurate to +/- 1 degree
