I was just wondering what gear you guys can get your car to break the tire loose in. I personally can get a sqeek out of third. Just trying to lighten the mood of the forum.

 

if it is damp out I can smoke em into 2nd no probs, if it is dry I can only squeak em. I got an NA runnin extremely rich and needs that fixed, it is so rich it is hurting my performance quite a bit, and I also have 1 clogged cat left, just waiting on Header before that gets pulled. My car is mostly stock though otherwise. Got single side exhaust straight pipe back from first precat, Magnaflow muffler (temporary till I get one, it is a friends), cone intake, gonna port/polish manifolds in next week, done some weight reduction but not much.

 

I'm generally pretty good to my tranny. I almost never peel out, even in first.

 

In my old N/A i used to beable to break them loose in third, and get it chirp quite nicely goin into 4th .. now my new N/A i can break loose in 1st and chirp 2nd.. Just my $.02

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but could some of you with the squeaky 2nd/3rd elaborate on your methods please? I too, *try* to be nice on my clutch (its new, and cost $750), but would enjoy pulling a chirp every now and then....

 

simple...roll out 1st to redline, shift, slam on the gas as you release the clutch...

in hard driving, it should bt really easy to break em lose in 2nd...i havent done third yet, although im sure my car is capable of it.

 

MODS!!! also i just let off the gas when the clutch goes in, I shift mad quick and floor it as i dump the clutch again...

my clutch sucks. cant even chirp into second.

only break loose in the wet.. going uphill.. in 1st.. HAHA.

oh, and into 2nd.

 

Chirping tires during a shift has absolutely NO indication of the power of the car. It's a function of clutch engagement power. ANY car can chirp ALL gears if the clutch is strong enough.
Anyways, as for my beast...
No traction in 1st whatsoever, so I shift soon. then it breaks free and starts spinning again once the turbo and powerband kicks in halfway through 2nd.
None again in 3rd if it's a little damp out, but normally 3rd sticks and holds if it's a smooth road.
This is on z rated 225's.

I don't believe that. because when shifting into higher gears if you dump the clutch its the engine that bogs, or just goes down to the correct RPM, the clutch doesn't really slip much, if at all. and, when you get really sticky tires on an underpowered car, even if first if you rev it and dump the clutch, the engine will bog, or die.
I think power has a lot to do with it, or at least torque.

but maybe I'm wrong. I'd like to see someone bolt a racing clutch on my car an see someone chirp into 5th(87' N/A)

 

If the car doesnt have enough power, it will just bog like you said. But I wouldnt doubt a bolt on TII being able to chirp atleast 4th with a 6 puck clutch if you tried.

 

I can almost always get first to peel if I want to....as for second...all you who say slam the gas when you let the clutch out...I have a much easier method, although the motor probably dislikes me for it....dont' let off the gas when you shift...I've sent my rear-end squirel style so many times doing this it's not funny....BUT IT SURE AS HELL IS FUN!!!!!

 

You guys are mean to your cars. I am affraid I would brake something if I did that. 1st is the only gear I've spun them in on dry pavement.

 

Once its spinning the tires already have no traction and probably wont do much damage (like spinning first thru third). However, just power shifting into 3rd from like 5th will IMO.

 

and all the newb's wonder why there **** blows up.. they cannot drive worth a lick!!

umm my old n/a would roast tires through 1st and about half way through 2nd, I could even punch it in 1st gear and roast em, this was with some toyo proxes, 205's. I agree with the above comment, any car with a good clutch i have driven I have been able to squeak tires...

 

it will toast 1st gear. and it will spin over in 2cnd a couple good times

I'm running Yokohama AVS in the rear and can break loose in 3rd gear!

 

I can brake loose in 4th gear with 18inch rims. And thats not by hold the gas when shifting thats just power. I haven't tryed 5th yet but i'm sure it will be possible.

In third I can put my foot in the carbueretor and spin'em when the turbo spools up. Oh yeah, I said carbueretor.

you want to chirp any gear, get a 50lb flywheel and a super clutch. You can chirp any gear with that combo. Being able to chirp the tires has to do with clutch quality, flywheel weight, and tire grip, not power. Power allows you to KEEP spinning the tires.

 

I used to squeak em in third. Second was a loud rip. First was all smoke if I was not careful with my launch (Almost lost to a RSX-S that way)
