well, the 1990-1991 automatic transmission vert was the slowest RX-7 ever made, so to get more speed and power, the first things I would be looking at (in a non emissions state- TX has no emissions testing right???) would be a true dual exhaust, then after that you are looking at porting the motor, and port matching or port and polish the intake.
After that its either motor replacement (perhaps a cosmo 13BRE swap with auto tranny if you must keep an auto tranny) or get rid of the auto tranny or go with a wet Nitrous system for short burst extra power or a custom turbo or supercharger setup.
you can do other little minor things like a cone air filter and cool air box for the intake and a CDI and Iridium spark plug set up, and good synthetics in the rear end and tranny (redline makes a pretty cool synthetic auto tranny fluid repalcement) but the performance gains are fairly minimal at that level.

capacitive discharge ignition, runs a much bigger/hotter spark plug spark. it will help a little with both power and fuel economy. examples are MSD 6A or Mallory hyfire etc.
Iridium plugs though? I duno...at the rate the rx7 + the CDI eat plugs that seems rather expensive.
